I honestly do not believe that 1536SP is right, as we know it's going to be larger in size than Cypress and we also know that Cypress has 1600SP. Unless, they quadrupled everything else... and that does not make any sense to me either...

6950 have 1536SP, not 6970! Stop read FUD.

I really hope the price/performance ratio is great. Otherwise we will be stuck with overpriced GTX570 and GTX580 (and 69x0 cards, obviously) for a while.

Hopefully you're correct. 1536 does look very disappointing, indeed. Still less than Radeon 5870 has. Hard to believe that...

if the 6970 is 1536, how many would the 6950 have? and how much performance per SP is needed for it to have a 15-20% gain over 6870 with about 20% lower clocks?

Maybe that switch unlocks it's turbo mode, allowing it to clock itself as it wishes on a higher TDP?

Correct : 302€ for GTX 570 In stock

and 295€ but not in stock

    DIGITIMES

As Nvidia has launched its latest GeForce GTX 570 GPU as well as reduced the price of its 400 series GPUs, AMD is set to launch its new Radeon HD 6970 and 6950 GPUs in the third week of December, according to sources from graphics card makers.

However, initial shipment volumes are expected to be limited, the sources noted.

The sources cited its testing figures and pointed out that the GeForce GTX 580 has better performance than AMD's new Radeon HD 6970, therefore AMD is expected to price the GPU US$50-70 less than the GTX 580 to cover the disadvantage.

If I do some simple calculations:

    Assuming 1 NI SP = 0.95x 1 EG SP,

    Barts Pro: 775 MHz x 192 SP (960 SPU) = 148800
    Barts XT: 900 MHz x 224 SP (1120 SPU) = 201600
    Cayman XT: 880 MHz x .95 x 384 SP (1536 SPU) [rumored] = 321024 = 1.59x Barts XT

Taking around 20% lower clocks from 6870/6970,
    Cayman Pro: 725 MHz x .95 x 352 SP (1408 SPU) [speculation] = 242440 = 1.20x Barts XT
(that also gives Cayman XT = 1.32x Cayman Pro)

lol i should have known you would do the calculations.
the issue is that perf per $ for barts pro and xt show the xt as being much better, but simply does not seem to be that way in real tests (too much memory limitation keeping them quite close)

the barts xt is 35% higher in SP perf, but the price is only 26% higher, so its really tough to speculate on real life just with SP perf.

Number of SPs is completely irrelevant because of the changes in the architecture. It's like trying to compare CPUs by their clockspeeds alone without being clear about the IPC. Sure, it can give some indication but it's far off at best.

    hmm

The -20 to 20 slider is a %, you can adjust the power of your card in the overdrive tab by 20% up or down.
the 250W is the maximum board consumption, but the non-OC power consumption is 190/200W.
Cayman can actually clock almost as flexible as any modern CPU, so it can run at 650 MHz or 800 MHz during benchmarking if you enable Powertune

I sure hope 6970 doesn't have disabled units like GTX480. Now that would be a major fail in my book.

You probably want to avoid websites displaying made up prices then.
