I think Anandtech had an article on it, where he dug deep into the 580.

You were being an ass, so you did deserve it.

Still nobody has tested to see if there are performance differences.

As to transistor count, GPU-Z only goes by what the official specs are. It doesnt go and count them.

All along the watchtower the watchmen watch the eternal return.

Agreed, i actually found this thread very interesting as i thought there may be a chance it could work. then i saw a bunch of haters jumping all over this guy for no reason except to watch themselves talk and poke at this guy.

to the OP, thanks for a great post and good job actually trying something crazy like this. Ignore all the trolls who just have nothing better to do.

Im supriced someone stupid enought didnt try to unlock 470 as 580 .

Anyway lets wait for GTX570 to come and then we will see, if the PCB has same amount of ram chips as GTX580, then we are golden and hopefully can unlock GTX570 as GTX580.

nVidia is very clever that they know people would try flashing 580 bios to 480. Thus they made some sort of checks to guarantee that 580 bios would still work on 480 properly (without having to deal with lots of RMAs due to flashing bios), while not harming their marketing at all.

flashing a 480 to a 580 is stupid.. try flashing the 580 with the 480 BIOS instead.. you will be much happier with results.

What for? I do not see a point. Seems just as stupid to me.
