Crikey, the OP sent me a very nasty, bordering on personal threat reply.

    How wise is that?

Don't do that, it's against forum rules. Just let it go, we're all human and get irritated at times.

Agreed, i actually found this thread very interesting as i thought there may be a chance it could work. then i saw a bunch of haters jumping all over this guy for no reason except to watch themselves talk and poke at this guy.

to the OP, thanks for a great post and good job actually trying something crazy like this. Ignore all the trolls who just have nothing better to do.

Im supriced someone stupid enought didnt try to unlock 470 as 580 .

Anyway lets wait for GTX570 to come and then we will see, if the PCB has same amount of ram chips as GTX580, then we are golden and hopefully can unlock GTX570 as GTX580.

You were being an ass, so you did deserve it.

Still nobody has tested to see if there are performance differences.

As to transistor count, GPU-Z only goes by what the official specs are. It doesnt go and count them.

All along the watchtower the watchmen watch the eternal return.

Hell no. Different transistor layout, it's got less 200M transistors than the GF100 among other updates. It's far from a "G0 Q6600".
