    a) Looking at slightly offset images is bad for your eyes for prolonged periods of time

    b) Glasses, active shutter or not, are usually uncomfortable

    c) The depth is forward projected, and in the end seems very fake. Contrasts between different layers of focus are way too sharp. It's like looking at those magic pictures where you had to cross your eyes to see dolphins on a background of noise.

Do you have any real evidence that it can cause permanent damage?

The crosseyed thing, I can't find anything about it on the internet.

are you talking about shutter glasses or polarization glasses in general? the former suffers from flickering so that's probably the reason for your headache.

lol... how would you get cross-eyed by using polarization or shutter glasses? you're not even crossing your eyes with these.

First samples of Radeon HD 6900 getting close

AMD is struggling to improve availability, but now it seems things are improving as soures to NordicHardware reveal that the first samples are expected in two weeks. After delays that was partly because a new power supply, but also other reasons.

There have been rumors of AMD's delay of Radeon HD 6900 series would be poor availability of power regulators from Texas Instruments. This was confirmed by our sources, but it wasn't the only reason for the delay. The power supply of the Radeon HD 6900 series is much like the one used by the Radeon HD 6800 cards with Barts GPU, which has also affected the availability of the series.

The information from AMD is otherwise relatively scarce, but it seems pretty clear that the delay is not because AMD has tried to revise specifications in order to meet with GeForce GTX 580. According to PowerColor Radeon HD 6970 will offer 30-50% better performance than current generation graphics cards. One wonders if this will be enough to match GeForce GTX 580 and then AMD also has Radeon HD 6990 sporting dual GPUs around the corner.

In the near future we will have more information on AMD's new graphics card, whether we have the possibility to share before week 50 when Radeon HD 6900 is said to launch remains to be seen.

lets not confuse review samples with engineering samples. Availability should be reasonable as it is the reason behind the three weeks delay, maybe quantity is in the single thousands first but it should be available. A paper launch could have been done on Nov 22 but it wasnt.

Even for a paper launch there should be enough quantity for Review samples. Atleast in India, even AMD HQ is awaiting for their first graphic cards to be distributed to Media houses, so it can certainly be just a paper launch in December

Dont think we have qualified information to say for certain its a paper launch, if anything, its the opposite, just read the nordic hardware post again.
But oh well thats also what they said about the gtx580 and look at its availability now.

The lab at Stanford came back to Sega with dire warnings about the hazards of prolonged use of this technology. SRI warned Sega:

“You Cannot Give This To Kids!”
Pesce says that Sega took the test results and buried them. Fearing lawsuits and consumer backlash over health risks, the VR Headset never made it to market and neither did the truth about the dangers of prolonged exposure to 3D virtual environments - until now.

VR helmets were small tv's 3 cm from each eye in a completely dark environnement, after 15 minutes it was headache for sure.
i cannot see it even close to 3D glasses were the effect is just luring the brain, maybe an issue with the frequency of active glasses.

idd, virtual reality headsets were a completely different approach of stereoscopic 3d.

i fail to see why shutter/polarization glasses should be dangerous.

how many people do you think are out there who can tell their mommy to go out to best buy and pick up a 580, then WAIT until xmas morning to open it up.

people who can afford a 500$ gpu, are the kind who buy something when the want, not when santa says so.

the loss of holiday sales for a 300$+ gpu is minimal compared to the total sales across the next 8-12 months before 28nm comes out. now if things were revered and the 6800s were late, then this holiday the 460s would take most of the pie.

I agree 6800 and closing the gap on 460 was way higher priority before christmas than getting Cayman out.
Dont forget 5970 still holds its own till Cayman is there.
For Nvidia priority was getting out a new product in time and it was a very good response and should boost their dx11 share up somewhat but not as significant as the 460 did.

iirc focusing our eyes is harmful if we do it a lot, and depending on how well the 3d illusion works, our eyes might actually notice its an illusion and refocus over and over, plus focusing on different depths that dont actually exist...

    so its not just flickering...

According to PowerColor Radeon HD 6970 will offer 30-50% better performance than current generation graphics cards. One wonders if this will be enough to match GeForce GTX 580
whats there to wonder? a 580 is around 30% faster than a 5870...

depends what settings though, with 4x AA and 16AF and high resolution. It grows wider.

With decent AA and 16AF, a gtx 580 can be faster than a 5970 which is atleast 30-50% faster than a 5870.

If the original rumors are true and that 30% is compared to the 6870, then you add another 7% to that figure.
