its slower than 580gtx.
unless they been fed the 6950 with less shaders.

Ok, don't get me wrong but the hype around Cayman reminds me of "the" R600. I hope it's not the case.
For the math experts, given GTX 580 numbers how fast Cayman-XT should be compared to Cypress-XT to stay at same performance level?
Antilles being delayed could also be a sign that Cayman will perform better than expected vs competition and there will be no need to rush it out yet and perhaps this way they can generate better yields before trying to get the card under 300w = making less compromises.

Personally I take the delay as a sign they're behind schedule on delivering the chips/bios/drivers to AIBs like the rumor says. I'm inclined to believe that Cayman might have slipped to December, though the 22. Nov was never a solid release date afaik, just a rumor.
"No, you'll warrant no villain's exposition from me."
I'm a bit confused about this "delay". What exactly is delayed? Is AMD going to have "something" competitive against GTX580 soon? Because otherwise the will get in a trouble, and with that, we will get in trouble too, and the price of GTX580 will raise, I bet.

I thought 6990 was something, something really important indeed.
Do you mean AMD is going to release a competitive GPU against GTX580 soon?
I personally had some concerns about the possibility of a delay, but not for being disgruntled, as you put it. I have been, and still trying to see how this will impact the price of GTX580.

I don't think the survival of AMD ever depended on the 5970 or will on the 6990, honestly. 6970&6950 are far more important, just as the recent 6870 and 6850.
I believe so, yes.Do you mean AMD is going to release a competitive GPU against GTX580 soon?
You read rumor sites too much, or speculation by NV at their GTX580 press event which was mindlessly parroted by the tame press.I personally had some concerns about the possibility of a delay, but not for being disgruntled, as you put it. I have been, and still trying to see how this will impact the price of GTX580.

OK, sounds better now.
I really hope you guys are right, because if AMD can deliver a competitive GPU in time soon, it will keep the price of GTX580 in shock.

Cayman should have a good bite or otherwise it will suck for the crowd here. And i hope it will have an answer for 580 this year. And for other cards coming down the line from competition. I'm sure Nvidia will release somewhat upgraded version of their mid range. It will be interesting holiday season for sure.

get in trouble against what a card that is only available for +550$ get real that is minor volume, the real volume is at 460-470 where they had to make a huge price drop to compete with the new 68xx series. When 6900 series launch there will nothing from nv to be competing this in that price range.
6870 sells for about 250$ that is a lot of room for ati to bring a few cards to the plate, even 5970 is cheaper then 580 and provides same or better performance. Even 2x 6870 is much better then 580.
6950 and 6970 will launch with 300-400$ price tag and NV will only be able to lower 580 price already and provide cut down versions in between there 460-580 range.
you are just trolling all ATI related threads
You see, guys like you make me to get concerned about a real competitive GPU from AMD. It scares me when you mention 6870 or 5970, because the first one can't compete and the later is OEF soon.
With 6990 being out of the picture, then 6950 and 6970 have to deliver the performance to compete with GTX580. Lets hope they can do that.
You should not use personal attack to make a point, please try to keep it real. I'm discussing what this tread is all about.

I'm sure if 6970 is like 1% slower than 580 you'll go on a tirade about Nvidia's victory and AMD's "big trouble" whereas even YOU would know that the price factor is in the competition too. 580 is $500 and you have no idea about what the 6970 will be priced like. What if it's $400, and only slightly slower than GTX 580? You think AMD would be "in big trouble" for that?then 6950 and 6970 have to deliver the performance to compete with GTX580.
Thats the point we want AMD to release a card that's $400, and only slightly slower than GTX 580. 580 would not be $500 for too long then.

@ Sam_oslo don't be too quick to down the 6970 or 6950. We don't know how their performance will be and even if it will be less then the 580 it won't be by much which means those cards will most likely be good value for money. This is pure speculation, but looking at what the 6870 can do, I am sure we'll be in for a surprise when the 6970 gets released.
Wee need a competitive GPU soon, next years GPU can't keep the price of GTX580 in shock now! 6990 is too late to do anything good now.
You are assuming stuff, and making sure based on your guesses.I'm sure if 6970 is like 1% slower than 580 you'll go on a tirade about Nvidia's victory and AMD's "big trouble" whereas even YOU would know that the price factor is in the competition too. 580 is $500 and you have no idea about what the 6970 will be priced like. 6970 has to match/beat GTX580 in performance, that's what matters most. 1% and even 5% slower would do too, but a big performance-difference will get AMD in big trouble for sure, and then the price on GTX580 will raise too, I bet.
I hope you are right about the price and performance of 6970 , becouse 1% less and $400 means a price-drop on GTX580![]()

Even if they can't offer the performance, then AMD would put price pressure on the GTX580, they've done this for a few generations now and it is doing their market share quite good.
I however, see no reason to be "afraid" or "fear" anything right now.
Sit back, relax, take a cup of tea, things will unfold soon when the cards ship.
edit: Why is everyone assuming that Cayman is slower than an overclocked 5870? I thought the consensus was that it's nearing Hemlock territory, right on top of the GTX580?

http://vr-zone.com/articles/amd-rade...med/10276.html... an insider has shared a contradicting piece of news: the card's delay is not due to yield issues - production is perfectly fine, but rather a shortage of a particular component ...

I'm trying to figure WHEN to buy a GPU. You guys shouldn't assume other intentions. I know these GPU-threads has a tendency to serve other intentions too.
I have to get a new high-end GPU in this round, and I believe AMD's next move will have a big impact on prices in both camps. I'm just trying to listen to some "kind"-guys who have been following AMD more closely. Just trying to figure when I have to buy a GPU.
