Hey mate, What slot do you have the PhysX card in? I can't get my GTX 260 to detect in the bottom slot so I can use it for PhysX. The card works OK in the first and 3rd slots, but not in the bottom slot. I can't use it in any of those other slots thought because the GTX 460 I have blocks out slots 1-3, so the 4th PCI-express slot is the only one free.

Can't seem to get any help from anyone about this. It's really pissing me off and I feel like ditching the board. I don't know if the slot is stuffed or if it's a BIOS issue with the Gigabyte board.

I previously had a 5870 in the primary slot and the GTX 260 in the 3rd slot as it wouldn't work in the bottom slot, but I sold the 5870 and got a GTX 460 and the cooler blocks out the first three slots so I have to try and use the GTX 260 in the bottom slot.

I don't have a graphics card to check, but I have a 5970 in the first slot, 5870 in the third, and a lsi 9260 in the last slot. I've also had a lsi 9211 in the last slot working fine. (I also have both 1x slots filled with am xfi and an intel nic). This sounds like something with your specific board.

I'll try putting a single card in the slot tonight, but I just need to know if the slot is damaged. The card seems to be getting power. Could a bent pin cause this?

    slot layout is like this

    x1 --- empty
    x1 --- X-Fi
    x16 --- GTX460
x8 --- empty (can't ever use card here unless your vid card is single slot cooled)
x16 --- empty (can't fit the GTX260 here as the Asus GTX460 cooler blocks the slot by a couple of millimeters)
    PCI --- empty
x8 --- GTX260 (not detected in Windows 7, fan is spinning though)

I've tried the GTX260 is the first x16 slot as a single card and the 2nd x16 slot with a HD5870 and it works OK in both those slots so I'm pretty sure the card is OK.

    Yo man,
I set my cards like this:
    x1 --- empty
    x1 --- Xonar D2X
    x16 --- HD 5970
x8 --- empty because my video card cooler blocks the slot
x16 --- empty (very same reason like x8)
    PCI --- empty
    x8 --- Palit GTS 250

I had never any problems so far. The GTS 250 was detected by the very first time:up

Seems definitely like it's a problem with that slot on your board. Time for rma? Don't give up on the ud7, it's awesome, you just got unlucky.

Thanks a lot mate. You setup is almost exactly identical to mine down to the slot. I'll try the GTX 460 in that slot by itself when I have time tomorrow.

Yeah possibly. Could a bent pin cause this? When I got the Motherboard there were a couple of pins that didn't look right, but I've never had a bent pin before on any Motherboard so I am not sure if there was a couple that looked different to the rest of the grid. I bought the MB second hand as the previous owner upgraded to a UD9.

Sorry, I was in a hurry when I said it fixes the Sata.

From what I have read it updates the Marvel controller and fixes slow mode.

I have just started to build a new rig that is using a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD7 motherboard. I had attached the CPU and CPU cooling fan and was about to attached the hybrid silent pipe cooler. I then noticed that the board came with the water cooling connection already fitted. I removed that (it had a dob of thermal paste under it) and went to install the Northbridge heatsink. I then discovered that there was no heatsink in the box.
    Can someone please confirm....
Motherboard came with water cooling heatsink already attached and that Northbridge heatsink was wrapped in the box somewhere.
I will contact the shop where i purchased the board and hopefully they can help me somehow.
    Thanks

    Rob

you do not take off the Watercooled heatsink, the hybrid pipe system works with it in unison. Thing has a manual, right?

^^ If you arent using the waterblock you dont need to leave it on, it doesnt do any good, at least not on my rig.

I have tried with heatpipe, without, now I have taken the waterblock and the silent heatpipe off and temps are still good, low 30's idle and high 30's to 40c load, temps are pretty much the same. The silent cooler doesnt help me much and blocks the use of the 1x slot for the sound card. Makes for a cool looking paper weight though. This UD7 runs cooler than my Rampage 3 Extreme, or Classified board and without the heatpipe or waterblock.

    strange high temps

I'm getting a strange High temperature that i can't figure out what it is from
SiSoftSandra calls the temp reading as CPU 2/ Aux Temp
    Speedfan calls the sensor [IT8720F]

What concerns me is that it is hitting 65Deg on Idle
    picts below

it use to run at 55 Deg but since i changed my water cooling to my home made block it runs 10 deg hotter. and now at 65 degrees.

pict of my new full cover waterblock below

I also changed out my 3870x2 video card for a 5770 but GPUz shows nothing of this temperature.

anybody know exactly where this sensor is located?

Overall my internal case temp is running 5 deg cooler

CPU 2/ Aux Temp in SiSandra is MCH temps

So either your block is not setting firmly, or it's not cooling as well as you hoped. The temps in the above image are with the stock cooling heatpipe

I notice your block is not cooling the CPU VRM's/Mosfets, did you leave the stock little block on there - I can't tell? You do need to cool those for sure!

thanks, that was exactly what i needed to know
I tightened the block down a little bit and now its only at 43 deg. 12 deg lower then stock

As for the little block, there is a block on it as well, that the pipe is soldered to.

    thanks again

edit: Ran Linx, and it went tup to 48 deg, after running linx temperature dropped to 47 deg after 5 min. may not be the best block but so far i think it is good enough.
