IMO it's weaker than expected. I hoped for at least 256 SPs and 192bit memory bus, but nvidia decided differently, obviously. It's a very cool card, however. Tests by the guys at HardwareBG show that the card barely gets above 64°C in furmark and it does so fairly quietly.

Oh, BTW, the price was around 145 Euro before taxes before they hid it.

Well, some gauging is to be expected. Besides, it's an Asus card and over here they sell at a price premium for some reason. The price should settle a bit lower, but only time will tell. A review is being cooked currently ,or at least that's what they say in the first link (sorry I didn't post a translation, but the way google translates it to English makes it completely unreadable), so we should at least see if the performance is OK. The clocks are somewhat high (except the memory) so it might not be that bad. Still, it's basically half a GTX460 at slightly higher clocks, so it isn't that hard to predict.

remember that a gtx275 beats a gtx470 in some benchmarks

it really is exactly half a gf104...
that is in GTS250 territory... but GTS250 cards have been selling for 99$ for almost a year now, so i dont really get what this card is supposed to do... if GF106 consumes less power then itll be great for laptops... and htpcs... but desktops? im sure itll be faster than a gts250, but not a lot... and then there is atis 5700 series which is between 100 and 150$ and will most likely beat the GTS450 across the board...

What benchmarks? I just skimmed through CB.de review and the closest it gets is 20%, otherwise it's mostly 45-50% faster and sometimes even 80-100% in some extreme cases.

nVidias cheapest DX11 card. Given the heat output, that cooler should make for a cool running card.

All things considered, it might make for a nice HTPC card, but i would have really liked to see this as a GTS 440 rather than a 450. Now we wait for benches to see if it can at least catch the 5770. Also, stock clocks seem high-ish, wonder if there will be any headroom left, considering it runs quite cool at stock.

The HD 4850 was a $199 card. Why would someone be looking to "upgrade" to a lower price point in the first place? Direct replacements for the HD 4850 are the HD 5830, HD 5850 and GTX 460. IMO, any lower end 400-series card will likely act as a replacement for the HD 4830, HD 4770 and GTS 250.

Even the GTX460 is not a compelling upgrade path for a 4850. I seriously debated it for a while, but I decided to wait for the next gen from either company.

Also, from my limited memory the GTS250 and the 4850 were quite similar in performance.

If I had a 4850 the logic path would be wait a couple of months for ATI's next gen and/or Nvidia's refresh and buy another 4850, imho. Those cards are almost free today.
