this expander usually connects to pcix1 and pcix3 on the r3e, thus providing 32 pcix lanes between the 4 pcix slots on the expander and the cpu.

the expander itself uses two nf200 chips to interconnect the 4 pcix slots on the expander to each other.

as a result each of the 4 vga cards connected to the expander will see and be able to use full x16 bandwidth and allow 16 lane wide communication between all 4 vga cards.

communication between vga cards and cpu is still limited to 32 lanes in total.

If I understand that pictures right, this thing will only add a couple of nf200 to provide enough x16 lanes for 4xGPU, and it needs to sit on 2 PCIe-slots to work. Then it can't be used in the way presented in this news. Is this news just a joke or what?
