I'll try the 1090T later on. With the 965 BE I did 325HT easily on air...
I was on 1.51Beta for the review, latest biosses haven't really impressed me... need 2.41C for 1700mhz Gskill Flare action ( at least better than the 890FX UD7 lol )
I had extreme fun on the board with the Hwbot IGP contest, got first place (thks Massman) :
Rol-Co dominated all, but superpi 32m, with his 890GX in the Hardware info 555 BE competition... easy 320HT clocks (his scores beating CH IV and CH III , Giga 790FXTA UD5 setups)

Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

I highly doubt that the new bios would make it reach 330+ FSB like the Crosshair IV or the Gigabyte or the MSI boards.

OK, lets see some stability tests prime95, LinX or whatever you want. Everybody can say "My HTT is 300,400,500". I want to see results and proof of it. Also give your BIOS settings.

What have people found to be the best BIOS for a combination of FSB and RAM frequency? Depending on if my M2F not playing ball nice with my GTX460 gets sorted out, the Extreme3 looks like it'll be at the heart of the new system.

guys using thuban with this board. at 2.4 dont we have an option to change the multiplier for turbo core?
The only option I see is to set enable, disable and auto in the bios.
Its also weird that when I use amd overdrive the max multiplier for my amd x6 1090t is only 18x.
edit.
it seems that you have to download the one that is on the asrock page. now the problem is after restart the settings I set in AOD is ignore even if I check the "apply my last settings when systems boots"![]()
I just built one of these up with the chip in my sig. The bios was really, really well done in the 242b version I had loaded. I would go as far as to say the best overclocking bios I've seen, Including my 790FXT-UD5.
This is a secondary rig done on the cheap using up some older water cooling I had sitting idle, and I was running a little hot while waiting for more fans to show up, risking the chip, if anything, running 3.8Ghz at 58C according to HW monitor, when right before my eyes, the system shut itself off.
Well, let it cool down and maybe wait for the new fans before trying for more clocks?
System will not power upClear CMOS, remove battery+Clr CMOS, no result. So I pull the eight pin motherboard power, and the fans and drives come on, the onboard power and reset are lit, but the diagnostic led remains dark.
I was running a 1055T - 13X292@1.47V. Cooling was a spare MCR320 with three lian-li case-pulls as fans, and a lightly used D-Tek Fuzion and 655 pump and new .5" ID tygon.
Yet another 890 board with under-built power delivery? I have built five systems based off ASRock in the past with no issues.
Is it worth testing it with another chip, or is the eight pin test indicative of a dead board?
I was only pushing 1.47V remember. Looking back, I feel a bit foolish for not spot-cooling that area with a 120mm hung by some stiff wire.

The board uses a 8+2 design, it should be sufficient for X6 CPUs. One thing you might want to check though is pull the MOSFET HS off. I've heard a lot of stories where theres no TIM AT ALL under there its bare metal![]()

yes your are correct on the mosfet heatsink. Madshrimp IIRC removed the mosfet sink and there was no thermal pad.
Crazy! I sincerely hope Asrock sort that out soon or their gonna get a lot of RMAs where FETs have blown a cap, literally!

So you're telling me I should apply thermal grease between the mosfet's and its heatsink if I don't want them to blow up?
I've touched the heatsink and when the CPU is loaded (6 cores at full) it becomes quite hot, meaning heat is transferring from mosfets surface to heatsink... I suppose Asrock engineers must have already measured and taken this into consideration, I suppose! (On top of Northbridge there's TIM, according to madshrimp review).
Is there any other gain from applying thermal grease to mosfets? Maybe more stable voltage?
How common is in other boards to apply TIM on mosfets? I've read Biostar 890GX doesn't even have a heatsink on mosfets... of course it's the cheapest 890gx...
Should I unscrew my mobo again to apply TIM on mosfets? Advice!

Other thing, concerning bios 2.42B:
For me it's more stable than 2.41C and earlier bioses, while voltage in idle is lower than that set in bios, unlike earlier bioses(this seems good for my setup, could be bad for yours). I adjust the new settings like follow:
*Droop Adjust: 1/4
This is the slope of the dropping voltage when load finishes, I think. Maybe slope in raising voltage too. If I disable droop adjust, cpu freezes on the beginning of load.
*OVP - 250mV (default)
Over Voltage Protection. Not sure what it is. Maybe board won't let Vcore above (Vcore set in bios + OVP) no matter what.
*PSI_EN - Enabled (default)
PSI allows the VR (voltage regulator) to enter power-saving mode to maximize the system efficiency when in lightload conditions
0b: PSI_L flag in SVI ignored.
1b (default): PSI_L flag in SVI monitored and phase dropping enabled according to PSI_A.
*PSI_A - Two Phase
PSI Action, when PSI_EN is enabled
0b (default): IC working in single phase when PSI_L asserted.
1b:IC working in two phase when PSI_L asserted.
*DPM Setting - Disabled
Dynamic Phase Management
*VCore Offset - 0.05V (as default on earlier bioses)

1. Yes, ALWAYS apply TIM to anything with a heatsink
2. Deluxe4 looks identical to Deluxe3, can probably cross-flash the deluxe3 if one wished.

Yes, they add Realtek instead of VIA (i dont care, i use my Audgy SE @ X-Fi).
- Its only an OC support, you can use 2000+MHz modules at any ASRock 890 board.
- Yes there is 8+2 PP design,
- Like i care, if i need it, i get an USB 3.0 HUB.
2. It realy isnt identical, there are some diferences in design, some capacitors arent in the same place, and the DIMM slots are now paired other way.
Someone could try reflash it, but i would not recomend it.
But i recoment 880G to 890GX reflash.
Looks like it could work.
