    Hey my friend!

My good old faithful Q6600 (old batch) from 2007 is about to see ice for the 1st time in his life. I want TOP 3 on all of those benches with it. That's around 230 hw points! Let's see what it can do but first I need a good board.

400mhz strap 4.00D works until somewhere between 425 and 450 - no post...
400mhz strap 3.33D works at 450 but errors out in Memtest #7...
333mhz strap 4.00B does not work at 450 - no post...
333mhz strap 3.20B works at 450, but errors out in Memtest #7...

Upping vMCH since it looks like it's the memory controller is having trouble with the speed. 1.38v -> 1.48v (Can always lower it later.)

    400mhz strap 4.00D doesn't work at 450 - no post...
400mhz strap 3.33D works at 450, but errors out at Memtest #7, Same time as with less vMCH...
    333mhz strap 4.00B doesn't work at 450 - no post...
    333mhz strap 3.20B - Sane at 3.33D...

Upping VTT (#7 is FSB related, right...?) 1.32 -> 1.38v

400mhz Strap 3.33D - Errors at #7, although slower and less than before.
333mhz Strap 3.20B -Errors at #7, although slower and less than before.

I'm getting bored and frustrated, any input? This is retarded. I'm using default timings (9-9-9-28), which are more than stable enough at any speed I can achieve with this Q9550.

Small update: I've gotten it booting reproducibly at 500fsb with the divider at 3.2b (1600mhz), however, it's not stable at any timings - instant erros in memtest. Something's not right with teh NB. I also got the 4.00B divider to boot (2000mhz), but only on "auto" timings, and nothing else. Auto timings is something like 10-12-12-35, lol...

well you went a step ahead mines dont boot at 2000 not even AUTO just reboots 3 times and then starts on defs...

i hope GIGABYTE can improve the BIOS for this high speed mem as board says 2200+ DDR3...

soon as i get home i will send you my saved bios for you to try Kain

Thanks. In fact, the 4.00B divider is more stable than 3.20B - with it memtest doesn't error out instantly. Try booting 4.00 with auto timings - I can't get it to boot at anything except auto - not even 9-9-9-28...

I'm getting fairly frustrated with this board, if I can't get it stable at 4ghz with good ram speeds/latencies in a few days, i'm going to pick up a 750 and a P55-UD4P.

Hi all, I've come back to finish this machine from last year...I just had other computer stuff going on!

I have a Q9650, UD3P, 8GBPI ram from gskill which runs up to ~1140 Mhz stable.

My vid is a lousy 1.3v. I would like to optimize my 24/7 on this machine without getting too warm in temps, but getting as close to 4Ghz as I can. I am starting over with this overclock so I have forgotten the important information for speeding up this setup. What are the key voltage settings and what should I look for? What changes would you recommend to improve my settings? Approximately how fast do you think I can overclock this chip for 24/7?

    No luck, sergio...

It's the northbridge... it's just not stable... when I run memtest at 1600, it can be at any timing from cas 6 to cas 9, and I get the EXACT same results - instant errors in Memtest.

so weird bud i've tested 3 sets of mem never happened that to me its not mem as you are on second set but maybe its mobo or heat on the MCH did you measured MCH temp ?

MCH is not topping 40 under stress, it's not that. No matter what settings, I just get instant errors in memtest. No other good 775 DDR3 boards around, forced to move to 1156..

What about Auto for Strap and then choose 3.20b multiplier. I thought there were some issues for some others on EP45 boards and that solved it.

Really? I'll give it a go when I get home, do you happen to have any links to this being the case? if you set it on auto and choose 3.20b it just sets it to 333mhz, AFAIK.

Small update: I have 500fsb with the 3.20b divider fairly stable with a vmch of.... wait for it... 1.6v

Is this remotely safe with good cooling for 24/7?
