Sheesh, none of the girls I have dated have even shown a minor interest in my hobby and you guys are landing chicks that go to OC competitions? Must be a European thing

He bypassed the language filter in calling me a bad name after I deleted a post of his that referenced Hitler and would have further derailed an already loaded thread. I would have been cool with a bunch of bananas, I enjoy a good curse or two, but bypassing the language let me throw the book at him. We also got the Rules sticky restuck so you can thank Bill for that (the rules had been unstuck for ~1 month )

Why not allow these discussions go on in the open? Surely there is a truth out there somewhere that will eventually be uncovered if these discussions are allowed to run their course. By silencing dissenting viewpoints and "taking it to PM" I think a lot of issues that are important to forum goers get buried. This leaves the average guy like me wondering what is going on and wondering who I can trust.

Along the way we might have to hear some accusations made that we don't like, some previously respected individuals may lose some of their standing, and some hidden agendas may be revealed; but just silencing people because they voice an opinion that you don't want to hear isn't right.

Banning should be reserved for people who are blatantly abusive. I don't even think those who were caught cheating should be banned form the forum. Just because they've been publicly outed as being unehtical doesn't mean they shouldn't have a voice. If they have the balls to show their face and talk about their deceitful actions, so be it. Again, honesty and integrity will speak for themselves, and so will lies and deceit. I say let people talk, and the truth will be found.
You have some interesting points. We have let the discussion go on. No one has been silenced for an opinion but that guy I bounced wasn't sharing an opinion. He was working an agenda.
From another forum whose sole purpose for being is a refuse of those banned from here.
More to be pitied than hated to be blunt except for the owner who is hard to describe. A guy who spends hours per day just scanning Xs for content for his "forum"..

I posted this on the News section, but I think this is a better place to get the answers.

Excuse me for my misunderstanding of the situation, but didn't they get caught cheating and then own up to it? I mean it wasn't until an official inquiry by HWBOT before anything was discovered. It's great that they came on here and tried to explain what happened and what they were thinking, but that doesn't change the fact that they decided to cheat. And let's not forget what was at stake here, not just a score, but a paid trip and who knows what else, something that should have rightfully been someone else's. I have no ill will for any of them, especially Skinnee, but that doesn't mean I have any sympathy for what happens to you when you get caught cheating. I am going to say it again, they all got caught, who knows if this is the first time or just the first time they got caught, does anyone know? Of course not, and I want to believe that it was just this once, but the problem is that they have thrown doubt into every score out there now with their selfish action. Every time someone gets the top spot, the question will be there "Is it legit?".

I am also unclear on the punishment. I thought it was a 1 year ban from XS and HWBOT for everyone but Andre who got a permaban. I am now hearing it is something like 30 days on XS, can anyone clear that up for the record?

One more question, when I read Skinnee's explanation earlier it said Vapor changed the extension on one of the files that Skinnee tried to upload and this is what started the whole thing, so did Vapor know what was going on?

Changing the executable name is a common thing to do. Driver enhancements are implemented by the executable name and sometimes renaming the executable to something else like.. 3dmark03 or farcry2 will yield more stable and consistent runs. Some benchmarks are notorious for having bug low and bug high runs where something just goes wrong and you get garbage performance. Something as simple as changing the name can fix that.

    +1

We all now know to never use it for Futuremark benches

    Still usable in games though

Plz elaborate on the matter Jonas... have you ever dated a GMILF

I think a 1 year ban is more than sufficient and a zero point profile at HWbot.

Be honest lads , who hasn't messed up once in his life ? If they learn lessons from it then it's okay for me...
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Interesting news and this is only the beginning .....
The mentality was good overclockers change since the beginning there are 10,15 years. Before we did the overclocking for enhanced performance at lower prices. Today overclocking is a competition to gain "recognition" and win cash or prizes (repay these purchases).
A competition created a clans "Team", jealousy and the lure of gain .... and notoriety for some (it's true that we must be at least an engineer to know overclock ...) Ridiculous.
Brands have understood and used for overclocking their business. It was only you to choose how to direct your passion .
either we are in competition and all means are good to win and hurt to others. or We take a step back and think before we all had the community before you get his personal advantage.
Still, this is already finished. the cash prizes, lots, sites rankings have buried the basics of overclocking and the tiny community that was originally (by country), it has become global and like all sports / competition, there is no overclocking fun but just be better than others ...
Is the beginning of the end and the worst times are ahead ...

That's a flawed analogy because the order of magnitude of the 'crime' is not correct. Eg: you can't get prosecuted in Belgium for speeding, but you could if you're a serial killer.

Seriously by the time hwbot launched we finally had a place to collect our results, work on the biggest hw-database I can think of. Everybody could now directly see in which processor or GPU category he wanted to join the competition...oh dear hwbot was one of the best things that happened to oc scene when it went online. Sure we argued (and complained) about the new rules and there are always black sheeps but never say hwbot was the point where competitive overclocking went to the grave...the problem for me is the competitions where money, flight tickets and hardware are involved - and I stay out of them all the time, because that's not the overclocking I prefer!

There is not one single Score on hwbot from them, which was not made by their own hardware.
Ralf for example did not uploaded one Score, from the Computex, where he benched with SR2 and stuff like that.

I agree that he did a mistake with using a score not done by himself for the Futuremark Competition....so a disqualification in that tournament is correct, but its not to ban extreamtweaker.de in hwbot.

I also do not understand, why they got baned here.
Everyone is talking about them, and they have no chance to give answers.
I think thats a kind of childish...they are all grown-up persons....lets talk about that and find a solution TOGETHER.
You read the explanation of him? What is that for an explanation of screwing up a competition? "I wanted to go to taiwan whatever it took, not for the comp but for personal reasons" I think he deserves the ban as much as all the others, no excuses!

I do it because I like meeting the peoples over and over again, still having fun with cheapo GPUs (have a bunch laying at home but no time atm ) and as long as you don't need the high-end hardware to have fun overclocking I think you are still on the right way.
I had times where I was very focused only on the top-notch hw and left behind why I started overclocking but when massi told me "get some grip on yourself" beginning of the year - I think I did so

Mafio I am Italian and I am proud for this!

But take it easy and take a break please!

Hiwa was wrong because made a cheat in overclocking competition and it is a right reason to be excluded or to be punished in overclocking communities all over the world. I agree with this.

But we are talking about overclocking that at the end is an hobby, a competition for entusiasts, is something much less important of nationality or religion or ethics or racism or discrimination angainst someone.

Instead your argumentations sound like something very close to racism and discrimination against a person (expecially if you know the personal history of Hiwa), that in this forum are really misplaced arguments.

What I mean, is that luckily, a cheat in overclocking competition is not sufficient to lost citizenship or to be considered like a criminal. Please think about this question before you answer with argumentations that might sound very offensive.

He's not Italian so why are you so offended that he uses the flag in profile if he really doesn't represent your country as a countryman? It was an individual effort...it's not like people are going to look at his profile and think "man, Italy is a haven for benchmarking cheaters". No, people are going to look at him and (along with the other culprits) as a desperate, glory seeking loser. So please stop putting your country in the mix and focus on the issue, which is globally, top overclockers are from here on in, going to be scrutinized every time they publish a top score.

SoF read my whole post, not just quote a simple line. In general we are on the same scope of view. By the time sponsors and big contest with prosperous gifts joined our OC Village, it was inevitable to prevent such cheating phenomenons . Highly motivated competitions strive people to make wrong decisions. That's all about

Let me rephrase a classical rock song from AC/DC:
There is a long way to the top, if want to overclock.

I would rather call it a weakness, it's not the fault of the OC competition or the prizes as some cheated before. It's just the urge to be on top, that makes them greedy and do anything to get there... sad but it's a human factor we see daily...

Cheating has always been present amongst us and it's an even tougher disease to eradicate then cancer...

Let me rephrase that AC/DC song even more : " it might be a long way to reach the top of Overclock, but the hardest part is to stay there...and to keep in touch with basic principles and moral"
