I Unplugged the 4 pin connector. It turns on LED and everything but no POST. Is there something wrong with these boards and 6 core processors? I just skimmed the thread because I need to go to work in a bit but from what I understand something about vcore and too much and yeah.. (Sorry)

I'm using the same cooler with this board and used the stock MSI bracket since I didn't want to take the board out of my case. When you took the MSI bracket off and replaced it with the H50 bracket, did you notice any padding on the MSI one? I've removed a couple brackets and don't think I saw any kind of padding, so I doubt that's the reason.

So what happens when you press the power button? Do lights come on, fans turn, or any beeps?
Double check that all your power connections are secure. If that doesn't work you should troubleshoot using this for reference.

There's padding I just checked. I checked my connections and everything is tight. I even thought that maybe I am putting too much pressure on the CPU so I loosened the screws, but that wasn't the problem. I did the troubleshoot guide, tried booting with one stick of RAM 1 video card etc.. and the thing won't POST. (Thanks for the guide though)

the stock base bracket has the rubber pads stuck on the base.

Have you short the bios reset jumpers just at the end of the pci-e display socket, that my just do the job, if not, like MassiveOverkill said, stop wasting time and RMA it back, before the dead line.

By shorting the bios reset jumpers you mean clearing the CMOS right? I just tried it and no luck.

So it looks like I have to RMA to MSI. I didn't buy it off newegg by the way. I bought it off craigslist off some lade for $250 CDN for both the 1055T and the mother board it was also brand new and sealed but no receipts. Everytime something good happens to me something bad happens again lol... I did get the H50 off ncix for $59 CDN which is really low for my area.

This is my first mATX build and I haven't built a PC for 2 years. Having it fail on the 3rd week and on top of that I'm broke makes me feel confused, angry and sad at the same time.. lol.

I feel your pain This MSI board is actually a replacement for an Asus board I bought off Craigslist that was DOA. I spent a week troubleshooting since I didn't have a motherboard speaker then another couple days looking for a replacement. Fortunately Asus let me rma it without receipt. I wonder if this is a problem with 6-core cpu's only. Anyways, good luck with the RMA.

Based on responses from the threads, no one has reported a death from an Asus motherboard and Phenom 6 core. Gigabyte is one of the few that offer a mATX board with an 8 pin aux. power connector. It doesn't have MOSFET sinks, but I really can't say if it's has quality power circuitry other than the fact that you would think so because it has an 8 pin connector.

I'm hoping MSI will step up to the plate here and give us a redesign.

Just got this board and am pretty impressed. One thing I haven't figured out is a way to control fans via OS software. The cpufan header can be controlled via the BIOS but not the 3-pin sysfan. Once in Windows I can't seem to find a way to conrol either fans, Speedfan only sees the cpu and hdd temp. HW monitor however does seem to show the rpm for the cpufan.

EVEREST Ultimate Edition v5.50.2123 now supports the sensors on this board:

I was about to post in the other forums but it looks like you already did it for me.

I just got my RMA number from msi and I will mail it out by this afternoon hopefully. I never rma'd before. How long does it usually take? Because after experiencing a full desktop for the first time in a year and now back to an eeepc makes me feel terrible..

Massive if you don't mind would you give me an update with what you are going to do with your system through PM or something? I want to know if you are going to give this board another try or buy another matx board.

I plan on putting her through the same gauntlet as before, except making sure there is more air blowing on the MOSFET sinks. The board did run fine for a week outside the case. If it still blows, I may RMA again, sell the Phenom II X6 and go back to i7. They should have received my RMA yesterday, so we'll see how long it takes to get the replacement.

EDIT: I may not go the route of having your cake and eating it too by using Turbo Core. I'll probably just do standard overclocking as there's no way to disable the additional voltage that Turbo Core applies.

the things i want to know are

1. what bios was the board shipped with?
2. was active phase switching on or off?
3. was voltage set manually or left on auto?
4. what bios was installed when the board died?

the reason for the questions are to see if there is any correlation between board manufacturing date *assuming that the bios version will give an indication as to how early in the product cycle the board was manufactured*
or if active phase switching is to blame and if it is, is it related to a version of bios.

3. was voltage set manually or left on auto? Set voltage to 1.41V but it ramped up to 1.45 for TC (verified by CPU-Z/Core Temp if they just happened to lock onto a core that was currently boosted)

MSI has received my board and my RMA status shows as:

It enables the additional power phases as workload increases and then scales them back as loads decrease.

It's appropriate if you're not overclocking, especially HTPC builds.

I'm being positive and hoping the board they send me back is improved somehow. If it survives with a little more air blowing at the MOSFET cooler, I'll keep it. If not, I'll get an Asus or GigabyteMe board or just go back to i7 and see if a Quad Westermere Xeon will work in a Rampage II Gene.

The manufacturers have been making some really nice high-end mATX boards for Intel chipsets, especially Asus, but Asus hasn't followed up with something to cater to the AMD camp............I was hoping this would the first decent attempt at an AMD offering. It still shows promise if they can fix the issue.

BTW you can increase voltages on hex cores on this board beyond 1.475v by using the fine adjustments to above it.

No, "CPU VDD" sets the Vcore/VID. Even setting CPU VDD=1.475V and CPU Voltage=1.501V, CPU-Z still shows 1.475V. So how does "CPU Voltage" allow me to increase the vcore ("CPU VDD") any higher than 1.475V?

i guess i have it reversed then, not currently looking @ the bios nor have been for the last week or so. im going to swap the board out with something a bit more reliable.

cpuz is only showing core vid, not actual voltage.
