I've had this mobo for a bit longer than usual... Yeah I get the upgrade itch, usually not for a valid reason...I just get it... I've had a thing for the P6X58D Premium since before it was even released, but sadly my UD5 is still going strong. Sucks, I have no reason to upgrade.

Sounds like some sort of OCP is triggered. Usually these are disabled for GB boards... hm. Try to disable Thermal management. My DFI DK x58 did the same thing after a certain point (because the CPU was drawing too much power). Should be fixable with a bios update though.

    Moffset cooling

    Hi guys,

I have the Gigabyte X58A-UD5 and bought the EK water blocks for it. However the two moffset blocks don't fit the X58A version.

Do you think I could cut the stock cooling pipes just before the moffets heat sinks and leave them cooling the moffsets as they are, and then have the main EK waterblock cooling the NB, SB and SATA controller?

Would the two moffset heat sinks on their own provide sufficient cooling?

    Cheers

Sounds about right given the circumstances. Respectable really given the higher than average ambient heat.

Out of curiosity what is there to be gained with the altered bios' with the intel raid / realtek controller updates?

Same here, have been thinking about replacing my GA-EX58-Extreme. Though it does seem to be acting cranky of late (looking for an reason ).. I've had my 920 C0 stable at 4.2 a while back but down clocked it last summer due to room temps.. this last winter I tried pushing it back up and it wouldn't stay fully stably at anything past 3.8 .. Got a 980x reciently and it's been cranky on that board.. can't say i've put a lot of time into OC'ing it but had it up to 200x19 pass IBT max settings 10pass, OCCT 1hr and prime for about 4hrs.. then next day it started blue screening , so I dropped it back down a bit till I get more time. (also had it "stable" at 160x27 for a while too...then started acting up again) Temps stayed below 60c load.

Also have lost a couple drives on that system.. just had a spinpoint 1T drive die after a couple weeks..

Why running such a high bclck with a XE?

You have the open multis to play with, especial when your clocking your mem so low.

It wasn't cooperating when I went over a 27 multiplier when i tried it with a lower bclk but that was before that Hd went out..so that may have been the issue. I'll be working on uping the multiplier now..
