Well we are allowed to release new piccies and details of the Extreme board and the Rampage III Gene tomorrow, results and co is something else.... Think you guys are in for a surprise with the Extreme board...
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

I could post a sexual and drug related innuendo based on the first line in your post. (But that would be rude so I won't.)

    MY PREDICTIONS:

I guess we're going to see 8Ghz? (5.0Ghz on air?) Actually if we see 100Mhz-200Mhz more than the Formula that would be a very nice bonus... higher would be even better.

    OR

Perhaps Hydra is going to blow us out of the water. <<<--- (OOPS can you be killed for having multiple puns in the same sentence?)

    OR BETTER YET:

    Both

I think the big surprise is the two different versions of the Crosshair IV Extreme:

No Hydra chip? Or hidden under the heatsink?

Check the position of the battery.

So, which one is the right version?

So my vote is the bottom one. I think the heat sink could fit onto either board shown. (Plus: I'd rather have the battery closer to the edge of the board away from the video cards.)

The PCIe layout on the lower one is better. I don't think the production model will have the PCIe x4 slot. But it's not a big deal because that particular slot is in an awkward place for a video card anyway... probably only good for sound, network, or dedicated HBA card.

But then they might have put all PCIe x16 on the engineering sample and then decided to just ditch that for a PCIe x4 slot to make it cheaper. But I doubt they would do that... besides all brands seem to be going to PCIe x16 slots even when they can only electrically support x4 or x8.

That won't tell you much. I don't even know what the final version is

That second board is definitely an early board.

Note it doesn't even have any printing on board etc model.

    Good luck man.
Thanks for the suggestions Zeus ....

I played with it quite a bit last night and managed to get it settled down by lowering the HTRef to 286.
Nothing else seemed to help and chipset temps are actually fine, 54c NB and 44c SB under extended load.
Adding chipset voltage (either) didn't seem to help. Guess I still have some more work to do, I hate lowering HTRef, it's the only way I can clock the IMC...

It has, it's in between the 3rd and 4th PCI-e slot.

    You're welcome Dave.

There's no individual multiplier for CPU-NB? I've never owned non BE cpu's i guess.

Well Yeah... I can lower it to anything under 10x, but who wants to do that...
I've even tried lowering it, thinking maybe my IMC is just weak but this board still won't post with an HTRef >310 reguardless of sub voltages...

I see all these folks hitting +350 on HTref and my board just doesn't seem to want to do it, kinda frustrating...

Sorry for the double post, this may look a little generic, but this is after 2 weeks of tweaking, and I'm pretty proud of myself...

It looks like my cores are strong, and once again, my IMC isn't up to snuff compared to other folks.
Keep in mind this is a $200 1055T...

My memory and IMC comes into play here (not the best of either), but hopefully it will show folks what the common man can do...
I've been OC'ing for years, but I would never claim to be as skilled as most of the Gurus here on XS.....

The best thing is my Wireless hasn't crapped out... And I have better clocks!
There may be a little more in this rig/chip, I haven't given up yet....
BTW: this is with Turbo Boost turned off (full 6 core OC) so that may help down the road.

    Looking good Dave.

Mind you my board doesn't post at 340 either. It did boot at 330, ran a few test of memtest which ran fine. After that i rebooted and went straight for 340. Didn't boot.

I haven't tried hard but i have tried to raise ht link voltage and NB + SB voltage to no avail.

This is the real downfall with non-BE chips. It becomes a balancing act of CPU, memory and NB speeds. And for performance almost make it a necessity that the bus frequency is run at least 280 or so.

How normal is the temperature increase on the northbridge? I just got one of those "malfunctioning"/no contact boards it seems. I am debating on whether or not to RMA the motherboard, or try to clean off the wax from the heatsink.

Asus says up to 65ºC is ok. Personally i would take the heatsink off and check the stand offs. What if you rma and get another bad one?

IIRC Asus are one of the few who openly said it was fine to replace thermal pads/paste without risking your warranty. So less hassle to just try and replace it yourself imo

Where is the source for this info. Would be nice to have it in writing before fixing. Hear say is worthless.

My Crosshair 4 died on me few days ago, so I have to RMA anyways, held off on the NB fix just in case something happened to my MB and it did.

I would love to see a link to that statement.

If true, two big thumbs up for Asus!

    Chilled water CPU only

Nothing special I was checking if there was any difference in the NB clocks.

I doubt it will carry much of a load @ that NB but It did clock to there on the third try, of course the HT ref was twitching a bit. This same chip in the MSI 790fx-GD70 and CHIII wouldn’t clock the NB up to even 3.1GHz so the CHIVF is freeing this turban up a little. I figure I have too much vcore in but it was the first test, kinda.

I just got the OS installed so I’m clueless as to any other advantages I may find in the CHIVF? I’m about as green as I can get with this MB.
