You can upgrade the firmware on the X25-E and they do release new versions from time to time, but it doesn't do much (anything?) for performance or otherwise in my experience.
And where did you get 40k 4kb write IOPs for the E? I am hard pressed to get 17k out of mine. 65k-70k for 4 of them in R0.
