For me, as has been mirrored by a few others, found that with a fixed VCore that is on the brink of stability at a given CPU speed, the higher the PWM switching frequency set the quicker LinX fails.

How much faster were you guys able to run with PWM set at 1000khz compared to 250khz? And with which BIOS version?
I would use exactly your words to describe walking on the edge of stability, but instead using 1000kHz to give it the advantage.
Using BIOS 0601 and difference between 250&1000kHz is unstable rig becoming stable at aimed speed (core 4410, uncore 3780, qpi 3780, mem 1680)

I would like to know that too. I didn't even noticed it, before you mentioned (never read manuals much )

Could someone give me an opinion?

On NB and SB what thermal paste should i use? Ceramic or Artic Silver 5 (on this RIIIE)?

I would use ceramic unless you are really careful with the as5. Temp difference wouldnt be more than 2-3c

    Ok. Thx for your opinion!

I think my NB and SB temps are too high! NB around 65~70 and SB 50~55 in idle, and after playing a game, takes too long to drop down the temps!

If it is like R2E, dynamic Vcore is obtained setting the BIOS Vcore in "relative" mode and choosing the right offset.

Anyone figured out a quieter fan option to replace the loud NB fan? It would be nice to turn down the speed when not OCed.

Sounds like a video problem more than the board to me. Do you have another card to try? Also could be your monitor not picking up the low resolution stuff before your video driver loads.

That sounds exactly like a video card problem. I had the EXACT same thing happen to me and I regrettably blamed the motherboard and it turned out to be a video card about to die. A few weeks later my ATI 4870X2 died, and I had RMA'd the motherboard thinking it was my PCI-e slots, lol. Amazingly, I tried another PCI-e vid card and still did not have video during bios post but did when I got to windows, but when I installed a OLD PCI card I had bios screen video, so I figured my 4870x2 was good and my pci-e slots up and died. Thank heavens Asus did not question me and properly RMA'd my mobo (its good to own ROG mobos), but when I got the replacement I was embarrassed to find the same exact problem still existed.

A few weeks later the 4870X2 just up and died completely, just turned off in the middle of browsing the Internet and never powered back on again. to this day I still have no explanation as to why my spare video card did not work on the PCI-e slot either, but because of that I was steered in the wrong direction. Thankfully Asus replaced my 4870X2 with a brand new in retail box 5870, lol.

    Works for me...

I would also consider your Monitor as well. I have had a couple monitors fail to initialize until the driver loads and starts outputting native (or closer) resolution. Perhaps it is a borked driver install too?

Try your old card and then move back to the 480 and do a clean driver install and see where that takes you.

    Good luck!

Have you tried it? I'll try it as soon as I get home from work. I love this when brand new MB comes out and there are new BIOS'es every couple of days.

Anyone know why TurboV EVO is reading my CPU PLL wrong and Asus Probe gives the correct reading?

It doesn't matter that its a brand new card or not, they too can have problems. Just try a different card and a different monitor before you decide to rma your mobo. Also, if your using the DVI port on your video card, try the other one if its equiped with two of them. Try your card on a different pci-e slot, and also try a PCI video card if you have one, and if you get a bios screen then flash to a new mobo bios and properly reset it just in case its a corrupted bios by chance. If all this fails then rma your R3E.

    Good luck...

Ive had it a week and have not done a thing yet. At stock it feels like my last system did when it was overclocked, haha. Going to play around with the latest bios tomorrow and mess around with some simple oc's first, maybe 200x20.
