A few weeks later my ATI 4870X2 died, and I had RMA'd the motherboard thinking it was my PCI-e slots, lol. Amazingly, I tried another PCI-e vid card and still did not have video during bios post but did when I got to windows, but when I installed a OLD PCI card I had bios screen video, so I figured my 4870x2 was good and my pci-e slots up and died. Thank heavens Asus did not question me and properly RMA'd my mobo (its good to own ROG mobos), but when I got the replacement I was embarrassed to find the same exact problem still existed.

A few weeks later the 4870X2 just up and died completely, just turned off in the middle of browsing the Internet and never powered back on again. to this day I still have no explanation as to why my spare video card did not work on the PCI-e slot either, but because of that I was steered in the wrong direction. Thankfully Asus replaced my 4870X2 with a brand new in retail box 5870, lol.

    Works for me...
Thanks for your answer.......I also think about my vga now, but It's brand new GTX 480 ............ I may have to try with my old vga too............

I would also consider your Monitor as well. I have had a couple monitors fail to initialize until the driver loads and starts outputting native (or closer) resolution. Perhaps it is a borked driver install too?

Try your old card and then move back to the 480 and do a clean driver install and see where that takes you.

    Good luck!

It doesn't matter that its a brand new card or not, they too can have problems. Just try a different card and a different monitor before you decide to rma your mobo. Also, if your using the DVI port on your video card, try the other one if its equiped with two of them. Try your card on a different pci-e slot, and also try a PCI video card if you have one, and if you get a bios screen then flash to a new mobo bios and properly reset it just in case its a corrupted bios by chance. If all this fails then rma your R3E.

    Good luck...
