And one other Q, why didn't you put the captube right into the evap?
Jack -
I slide the cap tube into the 1/4 tubing until it hits the inside of the evap. Then I back it out about 1/8 inch.
It is 1000 times easier to do it this way. Also if you ever want to change the cap tube, it is very easy to take out.
If you just stick the cap tube into the evap and then braze everything at once it is easy to melt, brake, damage the cap tube.

I braze the evaporator together with the stub for suction (5/16) and the stub for cap tube (1/4) inserted. I purge while I braze. Then when I'm finished I can clean it and lap it easily. After that I add the suction line and cap tube. It doesn't take much heat for these two so I don't have to worry about melting alloy on already brazed evap. Now I can pressure test.
When I put the cap tube in I pinch the 1/4 tube to hold the cap tube snuggly so it doesn't slide in or out.
