    Here's what I managed on stock cooling. Not much time to tweak this, but it'll probably be what I stick with for the forseeable future. Contemplating options about getting this chip home and under water, but I'm going to learn a bit more about i7 first, (and this chip).

    i'm so tired of these kinds of posts.this isnt the Gigabyte X58A-UD3R 100% stability club.stability police aren't needed.

    @pa9797,very nice results

    @In-Fluence,thats pretty good for stock cooling with a chip with 1.12v vid.im sure its a hot one.
    you should really get your chip under water as i do think it would shine.

    Well said radaja .
    Between the voltage and stability police to many threads are ruined .
    If they want cook the life out of their parts , more power to them . I just wish they would quit forcing their veiws on every one else .

    yep and the worst part is these police never leave encouraging remarks.which is what bothers me the most
    because i remember when i first started OCing it really helped me keep out, when members complimented my
    early OC's and gave me a courteous virtual good job/pat on the back which motivated me to push on even
    higher.
    and i also dont like people pushing the 100+ linx runs stuff either.why prematurely kill your hardware?

    pa9797: Very nice results. Stable is what ever the owner believes is stable enough for them. Myself I think a hr is pretty damn good in my book. Why over stress all your components for 3-4hrs or 12 to 24hrs. Not to much out there that stresses your system on every day use for those length of periods with that kind of stress and heat.

    yep and the fun part of it is they will be the first ones to flame a board or cpu for being junk after they purposely cooked it . oh well

    My cpu temps go higher playing bc2 than even 20 runs of linx does. Linx will go 20 runs fine one day and fail after 2 runs the next day. Meanwhile bc2 never crashes. I don't trust it and I'm not messing with it anymore.

    I am only trying to help. An unstable processor can eventually lead to fail. I am just giving a suggestion. I am not trying to be the stable 5.0. Really 1 hr is far from stable on OCCT in the eyes of overclockers around the world. Undervolting or overvolting a CPU in the long run may not be best. The only way to tell is make a much longer run. It is not tough to do. Run it overnight. Most use OCCT min 8 hours and some longer up to 24 hours. I have crashed LinX 100 passes at around 90(thats a 5 hour run and much harder stress than OCCT). That pretty much means not stable. If you pass an 8 hour run, most likely it is stable so why not see? Don't get so upset, I am not calling a 3-4 hr run unstable just 1 hr is not nearly enough...... and I am not suggesting a 1 year run. Again, just trying to help. I have been doing this for many years.

    Hey I'm getting a UD3R in the mail tomorrow, I have a spare 920 C0 to throw in it. I was stable 50+ hours prime95 blend torture test (not to mention 24/7 for months running prime95 for points), with it at 3.8ghz @ 1.4v+ with HT off with water cooling, what should I expect with the stock cooler?

    Linx don't mean s**t - I've had prime fail within mintutes after linx for hours - that's on 4 different 775 chips, an i7, 5 different boards, a plethora of memory, and PSUs etc. I'm not saying I'm any kind of 'stability guru', linx maybe good for CPU stability and a quick (or long if you choose) memory stability check, but tosh for general mem/nb afaic. Prime tests more CPU/NB/memory stressing combinations for longer (and I believe OCCT also performs a shortened version of the same tests as prime). [/rant]

    Ohhh my. Why you mad?

    All I did was suggest 1 hr is far from stable proof and you guys got all excited!!!! Gotta love the rants though!

    I totally agree Prime95 stresses NB better. I have crashed at over 8 hrs of Prime95 so 1 hour means diddly.

    Could someone please give me some feedback on the temps from my NB? I've aimed a fan at it and it's now running at 50-55C, which is obviously better than the 75C+ I was seeing before. The thing is, it doesn't come back down much lower than it's max temp after full load (ive been doing Prime and furmark together) has been stopped, which seems weird to me.

    Is it something to do with the way that a NB chip works that idle temps are generally the same or within a few degrees of load temps, or do you think there may be something odd about the way that the heat sink is mounted on my board (looks OK and feels solid)? I don't think it can be the temp sensor that's dodgy as it'll be 25-30C when it's booted from cold.

    Thanks in advance.

    That is about the norm for X58 chipset, it is rated to 100C, without watercooling you aren't going to see much lower than 50C unless you have the full wrap heatpipe like the upper end boards have. Even those hit 45-50C too though.

    with a 80mm fan blowing on mine at 220bclk and 1.3 volts it runs at 35 to 38c . I replaced the tim on mine with mx-2 . The oe tim was not bad
    looking but I had to tweak the heat sink to sit flat on the chip . Also my ambient temp is around 24c . I also removed the blue gigabyte plates .
    What voltage do you run ? How hot is your computer room ?
    @lsd
    man thats kind of high . I see alot of peeps saying they are seeing between between 32 and 45c on this board .

    Ohh yea? I hadn't noticed, I generally only see the complaints though so that may be why and those users may have poor case air flow is all.

    maybe so ........ but I have to admit my board is on an open test stand . It will be on water when it makes into a case .

    Thanks for your support!!

    Mine is on water too, so my temps would not be relevant either. I did have my UD4P on stock cooling though, and it was generally 48-50C I think, with redone TIM. Of course that was not at stock IOH though either.

    Thanks for the feedback.

    I think I'm definitely going to remove the heatsink and check the contact on it as it sounds like it's definitely running hot as I am only at 191BCLK and stock IOH volts at the moment.

    Also, the fact that it stays at a high temp even after stopping the stress testing suggests to me that there is little or no contact with the heatsink. Maybe the pipe is stopping it from sitting correctly as jetroho found with his.

    Interestingly enough I just took the fan off and put the Gigabyte plate back on . The IOH temp went up to 47c . With the plate and fan 42c . With the fan and no plate back down to 36c !
    As wolvers69 noted the temp difference between idle and load doesn't change much . For mine 1 to 3c maybe . Seems to depend on ambient temp .
