About the RV770, whole chip was screwed in terms of power consumption...RV670 was pretty good at idle, RV770 sucked and RV870 follows the good RV670 tradition now...
hmmm idk, i think there were no gtx280 leaks, at least not public ones, before the launch... it was a real launch with no detailled infos before launch, then they showed the cards, reviews popped up and cards were in retail within only 1-2 weeks iirc...

and yeah, add to that how R600 had completely broken power management as well and theres a weird tick tock pattern in atis power management logic ^^ they seem to break it with every other new release hahah

well, 6+ months late, low availability, and apparently a much smaller perf gap between the red and green cards this time around.
