You were saying something like DFI doesn't want to put in code for ES CPU...

Well, why do they do it then? They've released three different bioses with supposed Gulftown support. Not one, not two, but three. Each of them has the CPU PLL voltage broken and obviously still no support for Gulftown.

If DFI stands by the policy of no ES support then why do they release it in the first place? And when they do release it, it doesn't work.

Just got a new Intel CPU and quite disappointed to hear about the lack of ongoing BIOS support on this particular DFI board. I guess it's my last...

March, 2nd, 2010 - still no support, still the PLL bug out there...

    @Dopamin3

three? What are this three bios files dated? I think not at least one of them is able to get a "Stepping 2 (B)" Gulftown running. -> DFI should not talk about Gulftown support until they are not supported.

    @Bulldog14

The new CPU from end of 2009 should be far more close to retail CPU than the other ES from august 2009. But i'm really very proud on DFI, supporting A stepping Gulftowns 4 month after appearance and leaving the newer B Stepping CPUs unsupported

The A Stepping Gulftown lack has been from beginning of Q3 /2009 till end of 2009, the B Stepping lack is from end of 2009 till now.

Every time once a needy DFI user get no helping answer, every hollow promise, "civil discussion" will become a slugfest. Why do the DFI Support Europe tell me to support this CPU within next weeks after i got my X5650 not running with bios january 6th? Perhaps they should say "Sorry guy, this CPU will never be supported because it's an ES". Perhaps they should say "B Stepping support is planned for week XX in 2010" or "Bios will be released with launch of retail CPU"... But three buggy beta bios files without the promised Gulftown support seems to be all, DFI is able to...

I don't remember because they pulled the first two bioses. Each time they released a new beta with gulftown support the previous version disappeared.

    hello DFI Support

come on... i asked serveral times for Xeon X5650 / X5660 Support but
for me i got no competive answer. I wait for 3 Month now with this expensive
CPU and still no support. in January, they told my to support this within
the next weeks, not the next years.

    All i got was a "Don't now if/when/why..."

You can't call this "support" where ever the responsible people does't know
    anything.

So i am right that there is no plan in doing work at DFI? There must be an
bios project plan, milestones, goals to reach for every board and bios
    programming.

Is DFI really a ten people company, one person for coding bios files, two for
board development, two for sale, one financial manager and four for tidy up
    in afternoon?
This kind of project and support managemant is an evidence of incapacity
when you ask me and i know you don't.
I work in support by myself in an company with 1700 people. If i had no
answer, i go to the responsible manager for that, anybody will have a
    answer.

Perhaps i'm wrong and this support here and in DFI Club forum got nothing to do with dfi and there is no contact between sides. Then ist my fault, sorry that i blame you.

    So let me know that.

But thanks for your empty answers. Thanks a lot.

    regards.

Does not boot. Post 88 since 3 month now. Same to X5660 (B0).
Maybe they boot from Stepping 1 CPU now. But my last A0 i got in end of september 09. =/

Even ASROCK, ASUS, Gigabyte, Evga support these CPU and i'm sure Biostar can do this too. So DFI is around 3-5 month behind other manufacturers.

i'll do this... thing is that it causes lots of work to me changing the board. Additionally my MIPS Complete Set is not copatible with other boards. Thought to hold this board for around 2 to three years. Think i was wrong.
The thing is.. i am quite happy with this board. Worked more or less okay since i got one year ago, max BCLK is only around 215 but thats ok for this old X58. Perhaps i will change to MSI or Evga. Since my MSI H55 / H57, ... I'm really optimistic with the x58 MSI Boards. MSI also ansered to every question i asked, for exapmple undervolting capapilities with upcoming H55 Bioas files...

I'm sure i would have got a "Don't know" from DFI

It is frustrating with dfi as im on my first and i knew buying it they are slow to update from reading about them over the years.....Even slow to release boards after a new cpu comes out..Asus seems to be the best with bios updates and gigabyte too. I feel your frustration as a guy who gets new cpu's to try out early...A guy like you maybe would be happier with another board..Me not upgrading to 6 core for a long so this board serves me just fine...actually out of 3 x58 boards I like the dfi x58 the best ....I really feel your pain and their response is qoute unsatifactory as they must have a sometime date if they talked to their programmers, thats all it would take...but I kinda expect this from them...if i was running pre release stuff id be using someone elses board i think...but its like a double edged sword as i really like there boards.................

yeah this cooled me down a little bit thanks.

Asked DFI for the promised i7 980 support which launched today. This bios may support the Xeon and the B stepping. Perhaps i'll get an answer. Beside, there is the posibillity to talk to taiwanese support an the us support.

Hey guys been away due to family health issues + work, haven't touched a bench rig in 6+ weeks now!

But last I heard from DFI, the DFI UT X58 will get Gulftown B setting support just that for B1 step, they need to rewrite an entire portion of their bios for it which is probably taking longer to do. That was info 6+ weeks ago, not sure how it is now.

    ^THIS^

Also does anyone know how to tell if I have a B0/B1 chip? It's an "Intel Confidential" special, but it's quite a recent one, and I normally end up with only "basically the same as retail" chips at the last minute.

Sorry for the double post, but my 980X ES is working 100% with BIOS 02-10.

Maybe DFI doesn't have support for ES Xeon processors, but ES consumer chips are supported just fine.

Doing a quick test at 4.0GHz as we speak. Will be pushing for more.

on normal DFi website.... there you will find the beta the normal way.
But this doesn't help me. My X5660 is stepping B0 - not b1. think only B1 will be supportet. I think i'll not get an answer and nobody knows if the B0 will be supportet next weeks...

But if i buy a board for 300€ now, with water cooling and so on... i can sell my X5660 and buy a i7 980 ... with open multi.
Damn. Perhaps i shpuld stay on my W3520 @4.3 Ghz and save the money, sell the cpu ... buy fermi or something like this...

yes and my X5660 B0 did and does not post too... knew that already but thanks.
I'm waiting since January with this CPU for a bios supporting B0 on UT Board. In DK there is an new bios out today... perhaps a new for UT comes soon with µCode chances not noted on changelog.

I just got an email from robert in tech support andhere is what he said about gulftown support:

Thanks Mike. Yes things going along with Gulftown bios. It should support Bx stepping gulfies alright as I understand it. There is no intent to support ES gulfies. Last I heard Oskar was still with DFI. Thanks again. Robert.

Have to say DFI's support is pretty damn good, I emailed them about a spare part for this mobo and they got back to me a day later and they're sending it free.
