I just have one question... i see you always pushing very high amounts of VTT voltage (QPI/DRAM in Asus boards), what's the reason exactly? is it necessary to achieve those ram clocks or is it for cpu/bclk stability...?
high cpu vtt is needed for high clk and high mem frequencies and high uncore frequencies - same principle applies to all x58 boards

not enough space unless one of the 4 gpus is single slot hehe - that and availability of 5870 is rare and expensive - i.e. hd5870 here is now US$735 Luckily I got my 3 for US$460 each - purchased 2nd hand as previous owner updated to 2x HD5970 hehe

Anyway, starting with 2x HD5870 tests first though. Starting to push the clocks on 2x HD5870 in Vantage for Win 7 Ultimate 64bit.

100% fan speed voltages and clocks set in MSI Afterburner v1.41:
    • 975/1263 at 1.187v
    • 985/1263 at 1.212v

@985/1263 noticed that part way into Vantage bench, GPU2's fan speed drops out of 100% speed to 50% fan speed = end result GPU2 is 9C hotter at 63C peak versus GPU1 at 54C peak temps. GPU score seems a bit low ????

    3Dmark Vantage = 27,045

    System:

Took some photos of 2x HD5870 CF setup on Asus P6T6 WS Revolution (supports 3x PCI-E x16 slots for PCI-E #1, #3 and #5 slots). I grabbed my DFI UT X58-T3EH8's longer flexible Crossfire connector bridges as DFI UT X58-T3EH8 has double slot spacing for CF. Wasn't sure if I need both bridges for 2x HD5870 CF as there wasn't any difference in scores really for 1x vs 2x bridges I don't think. Last photo compares the longer crossfire connector bridge with the standard one.

I don't think it does as it's an old bios but not 100% sure might want to ask illuminatiASUS on this forum as that is where 0001 bios originated from IIRC.

My first time using triple GPUs of any kind (ATI or Nvidia). Tight fit there with the HD5870s slotted into PCI-E x16 #1 + #3 + #5 slots.

Okay first Tri-CrossfireX runs with 3x HD5870 flashed to Asus bioses at stock 850/1200 speeds. I did try Vantage run with them at stock 850/1200 and overclocked at 985/1263 but got much lower GT 1 - Jane Nash score in the low 61-62fps vs my 2x HD5870 run with GT 1 - Jane Nash in the 71-77fps ???. 3dmark05 had virtually same score as 2x HD5870 ????

    System:

    3x GPU = Win 7 Ultimate 64bit
2x GPU = WinXP Pro SP3 for all except Vantage benchmark

    Low GT1 3D Vantage @850/1200 with 3x GPU = 24,397 vs 2x GPU = 25,115

Very easy breach of 32K @850/1200 for 3dmark06
    3x GPU = 32,296 vs 2x GPU = 31,676

    3Dmark05 - 3x GPU 40,214 vs 2x GPU 40,215 ?? Seems to be low GT1.

    3Dmark2003 - nice boost 3x GPU = 158,942 VS 2x GPU = 130,936

Need to figure out the low GT1 scores in vantage and 3dmark05 for 3x GPU vs 2x GPU heh.

These new 9.12 beta (8.14.10.0716) drivers are bloody awesome for 3x HD5870 Tri-CrossfireX - new personal best scores all round for me. Even managed to squeeze out a bit more on my W3570 using 29x multi instead of 27x multi and jump in vcore from 4614mhz at 1.448v to 4695mhz 1.520v.

Hey great results. I have a noob question.

I just got a w3520 (packed 1/10/10) with an Asus WS Revolution..flashed to bios 0507. I noticed soon as I booted up the rig and looking at real temps (v3.40) my idle temps at stock were in the high 30's. I'm on water and this seemed extremely odd to me (WC set up in sig) Vcore is at 0.9845v. Now for such a low voltage I was expecting to be in the teens to be honest. Funnier yet I tried a quick oc...4.2ghz...set vcore to auto just for sh*ts and giggles. Vcore in cpu-z read 1.4v..ok no biggie but my temps went up by like 3 degrees. Ran prime and temps were pushing past 70+. On my old 920 D0 I never broke 65c, but she was a volt whore.

Anyways my question is and im suspecting it maybe the case...could the sensors on my w3520 be fubar? Could the 0507 bios not be reading the sensors correctly? Are those temps normal for a w3520? I'm a crazy? Ok the last one is still up for debate lol. I'm was going to test out the chip on my back up Bloodrage board just to see if it gives me the same readings as the Revolution but wanted some feedback first if possible. Thanks.
    Xeon w3520 oc'd to 4.2ghz w/ htt enabled
    Foxconn Bloodrage (G32 Bios)

    Silverstone ST1000 1000W PSU
WD RaptorX 150gb, WD 1tb, Seagate Perpendicular 320gb (non raid config)
    2 x LG Sata 22x DVD Burner
Swiftech Apogee XT Extreme Water-block, Feser X-Changer 360mm Xtreme Performance Radiator, Alphacool Cape Coolplex Pro 10 External Reservior, Swiftech MCP655™ 12 VDC Pump, 3x Scythe 120mm fans, 1/2in tubing

usual results there's low vcore high temp cpus as well as high vcore low temp cpus and others low vcore with low temps.

Simple some cpus are hotter than others, i've tried 5x i7 920, w3520, w3540 and w3570 and they all vary in temps even on H20 cooling nothing to do with particular board at all. I've only experienced low vcore and low temp and high vcore and low temp cpus though. Never experienced those low vcore + high temp ones.

some hot i7 920 even hit 80C load at stock speeds on water on a few boards from some folks reports - changed cpu and lower temps

Yea my old D0 ran cooler then my current Xeon but needed more volts to reach same clock speed.

Funny though...I swapped boards..wanted to test my sensor theory. Popped Xeon into a Bloodrage and temps were actually cooler. Not by much but a lil. I doubt it had anything to do with the board like u said.

I like this chip though. I can clock higher with less volts with the Xeon vs my D0. Only thing is the temps get a lil high but nothing to get too nervous about. Thanks for responding!

Not to mention ASUS forum is full of bugs reports, I didn't saw any official reply or at least 1 update.
But maybe I'm wrong and they will surprise me and things will not go in the same way like was with my ASUS M50SV notebook(0 BIOS update, 0 updates)...

EDIT: Ups! Another month and nothing(that makes 7 on official releases)... Seems I'm right and ASUS don't give a s***!
I am doing qualification testing on the official Gulftown BIOS now.

bingo13, I have been testing 0603 bios for long time, does support gulftown but not Westmere DP X5650

Works well in bios and even saves settings but BSODīs in every boot into Win 7, same CPU works fine with ASRock X58 Extreme and Gigabyte boards.

I will see if I can get a X5650 to test. Right now, we are on 0608 and everything looks fine with the processor that cannot be mentioned, officially at least. At this point, I will start crawling the forums to see what problems in general people are having so those can be addressed if they have not been already.

    ACPI problems:
Shutdown/restart after S3 sleep dosen't work, I localized the bug in Super I/O sleep/wake methods(SIOS and SIOW) quick fix was to comment those calls on PTS/WAK.
FACP(FADT) table has some bugs like:
    - PM Profile : 01 (Desktop) instead PM Profile : 03 (Workstation) it is a workstation board after all...
    - P-State Control : E2 instead 00
    - _CST Support : E3 instead 00
    - CPU Cache Size : 0400 instead 0000
    - Cache Flush Stride : 0010 instead 0000
    - Reset Register Supported (V2) : 0 instead 1(this is important for legacy OS reset)

    Devices:
    - Intel Option ROM is outdated, please update it.
    - Same for Marvell SAS, I saw some improved versions(especial on boot time) on other boards.
    - Marvell eSATA is AHCI compliant? If yes I'd love to have the AHCI option instead legacy, it suits better for eSATA... I couldn't find any docs/datasheet for 88SE6121, Marvell is so "restrictive"...

    Thanks!

P.S. I hope new BIOS version will keep good stuff for Xeon from 0001 or at least a beta will be leaked for us.
Thank you, we will get to work on it now. I will post up the 0608 BIOS tomorrow, but no support as it is not official.

Something wrong with 0608, changes multi under load. 20 drops to 19 from time to time even when CPU is pretty cool.
Also CPU is needing more VTT voltage than with Gigabyte boards :/
