today ive decided to give it a bit more juice and see how it performs at 3.8 so i got it stable with fsb 444, ram 1067 and vcore 1.23125, max temps reported by real temp r 66,63,59,59

everest is also showing those same temps but its also showing cpu temp next to those core temps and its a lot lower, like 52 under load, so my question is: how dangerous r these core temps im having and what can i do to lower them, cooler is ocz vendetta 2, ram corsair dominator 8 gb, q9550 @ p5q deluxe

ive been getting this strange bsod lately:

A fatal hardware error has occurred.

    Reported by component: Processor Core
    Error Source: Machine Check Exception
    Error Type: Bus/Interconnect Error
    Processor ID: 0

anyone knows what it is, it started after i rollback'd to my 3.6 OC

update: flashed bios with newest 2301 and reset to default values, wonder if itll happen @ factory defaults

LOL...especially with that mobo...the worse one i even got for overclock so far...with my previous p5k asus (P35) and my Q9550 i can easily stay 470 fsb(stable)...with this one(same cpu+ram+psu) just i can reach 479 RS!!!

r we talking about the same p5q deluxe mobo dude? coz u said its the worst one for oc so far and then u say u reach 479 unlike the p35 u had before?

this latest bios doesnt let me keep my old 3.6 OC for some reason, it wont even POST

p5q deluxe is capable of a lot more than ive gotten out of her so far, i just need to gather some balls and push it, thinking outside the box is needed lol

It has a drop from 1.38v in bios settings to 1.3v on load vCore without loadline calibration or vdroop. I've not gone further than 3.8Ghz on a q9550 but it was simply vcore which was causing problems. That's 450fsb * 8.5 with 5:6 divider (since it doesn't like 1:1 from various reports and the fact that it warns at stock in the bios that less than 800Mhz ram speed is out of spec).

with my previous P5K/ EPU ( p35) i was stable at 470x8.5...with this one i am stable at 479x8.5...sincerely i was expecting a bit more ...especially considering that its more expensive (almost double than p5k) its 16 phases its P45...etc etc...i've seen lots Gigabyte UD3P (cheaper than p5q dlx) stay at 500 or more fsb... easily

hey Megatron, this is weird, it wont boot with ur specs but it will boot with these, as u can see all i did was raise fsb to 471, underclocked ram to 943, raised vcore to 1.26875 to boot successfully for a few seconds, typing this from vcore 1.29375 and its stable enough to run firefox and type this, but the temps reach like 57.53.46.45 under 5-15 % load (i call this idle coz im only typing this in firefox and running real temp, some torrents and stuff), whats up with this? the only thing that happens is firefox crashes every now and then, all other specs r the same as my original 3.6 OC, i dont think i can live with these temps coz under 100 % load theyll shoot over 70+ if theyre 57 under load, what do i do to lower cpu temp and keep this clock, is that even possible?

Your GTLs are a bit high, you may want to give the optimized CME a shot, I would give vNB a slight bump, you may have to play with your VTT, and I would start with a PL (performance level) 8. My rig is rock stable now sitting at pl8 but if I switch that to pl10 and don't touch anything else my board won't even post. Four occupied dimms can be rough on this board.

will that lower the temps Baba? coz even if i got this oc stable the cpu would die coz of temps soon lol, is there any way to lower temps and keep the clock?

Please can someone tell me which program I can use to do an OC in windows?
Tried Asus turbo V (it tell that doesn't support this mobo), Asus AI booster (it doesn't install), Asus AI Suite ( it can change only FSB and multipler but there is no option for CPU Voltage), RM clock ( can set P-states but only from 1,18 to 1,25V that is the CPU VID).
I need only multipler and CPUvoltage selection.
Don't tell me to do it through the bios, I already have done this, I know how to overclock but for my purpose I need a software to OC one of my partition so I can keep the other (and all the system at the startup) undervolted.
The OC profiles are too boring, I need always to enter bios and choose the profile...
I haven't found anything in my research, only some programs that set the FSB or nothing more, but I need MULTIPLER and CPU-VOLTAGE.
    Nothing usefull?

im gonna try that now, even though ur cpu is able to do a lot more with a lot less vcore, thx

update: firefox keeps crashing, temps around 60 at idle, firefox keeps crashing so i guess this C1 just cant handle 4.0 on air, any other suggestions

Probably not, what are you using for a cooler and what types of temps are you seeing? I ran an e8400 at some pretty high temps (close to 80C under linpack load) for a few months and never saw a hint of voltage degradation. These chips are pretty hearty. I would be willing to bet that most people with degradation issues are those people that think that it's OK to run an OC 24/7 with everything set to auto which is a surprising amount of people.

Anyways, when I went to 8GB I found that a custom Prime run set to this where memory to use is your max available ram caused the fastest errors which really helps when tweaking. You'll see what I mean. I hope that it helps you as much as it did me. If you can run small fft fine then your cpu is in the ballpark but need to worry about the MCH.

Have there been done more or less recent testings with measured voltages on [Auto] or minimum values?
Is overvolting problem on [Auto] is BIOS related and been fixed or VRM itself? And someone here measured vSB & vPCIE on [Auto] or other?

This is not for deluxe version, it's for P5Q.
The latest for deluxe version is 2301:
