    1) The vendors now have more than info in their hands.
    2) It doesn't take more than half a minute to find out that there's no 2GB GTX 480.
The BUS width and the memory configuration info was released to the public.. a few months ago

I see ATI maybe dropping their prices a little when these cards are released, but if they are still selling why drop the price?
nVidia has traditionally been pricing higher that ATI, because ATi didn't have the technology to match/beat it. But the moment ATi got the top dog, the 5970 is selling higher than the launch price of GTX 295!.

The price depends on competition, and right now both have the ability/technology to match/beat each other, This is historical and will reduce the prices heavily, unless these guys make some kind unwritten agreement to avoid competing by "jumping over" the competing GPU.

470 SMSRP = $299, PSU requirement = 550Watt. Meant to compete with 5850, recommend 50 more watts, performance slightly faster than 5870. Looks like a winner.

If the yields are bad then it's better to price them low, as there's no price point where it will sell AND make a profit. So it'll do a lot more damage to ATI by lowering the price, so nvidia swallow the loss until yields improve while decreasing ATI profit potential.

That's what I'd do, they've ordered the wafers, the money is already gone. Might as well make the most of what you've got.

If they can get the numbers out it'll be good for us, if they can't them may force ATI prices down, unless retailers stick a huge mark up due to the supply demand ratio.

    1) of course, but we are not vendors, are we?
    2) my bad, didn't noticed it, I was looking over the "specifications" tab
    3) I've seen such a price on many pages that has GTX 480 listed, nothing suspicious to me

This is dumb. They better have enough cards made by then that every person on Earth can own one. I better not have to wait much after the release to get one. This is just BS.

ATi may have a new customer soon.

    Special Dedication
Chris Ray NVIDIA wanted to honor the memory of our friend and forum moderator Chris “ChrisRay” Arthington, who passed away earlier this year. ChrisRay helped countless gamers by sharing his knowledge of graphics and SLI on the forums.

To recognize ChrisRay’s passion and selfless support of the community, we worked with renowned modder Richard “Darth Beavis” Surroz to create a customized PC with NVIDIA artwork. The ChrisRay Special Edition PC features dual GeForce GTX 480 GPUs in SLI (of course!), and we’re going to raffle it off at PAX. All of the proceeds from the raffle will benefit ChrisRay’s mom, who could use a helping hand. Help us honor Chris by buying some tickets, and maybe you’ll win a truly kickass SLI PC!

Well if Nvidia keeps on pushing fermi back it may as well coincide or may not be far off when Cypress refresh comes around.
