Sounds a lot like a few thousand A3 GPU boards will be shipped to consumers as is (March),
while they re-spin again in hopes of fixing whatever is causing all the trouble.
Its just rumour, but Charlie may be right about "hope TSMC fabs perfect huge chip vs respin adding redudancy like double via to make chip even bigger".
Very tough situation indeed. But unlike G200 which went with conservative 65nm, there is no "55nm" equivalent half-node shrink.. 40nm is already that!
One way or another nVidia needs to fix/work-around 40nm issues till end of '10.
SSAO is Screen Space Ambient Occlusion. It is implemented entirely on GPU as pixel shader for games like Crysis. Its an approximation to Global illumination. It allows the ambient light sources and colored surfaces to contribute to the lighting of an object (NOT specular reflections) that may otherwise be in shadow. ie when lights are on in closed washroom, everything outside washroom door is a little less dark because of light reflecting off the walls.
nVidia has a driver option for this if I recall.
