If this is a good design, it might fail for Nvidia this time (which I believe it will) but could be the base for some awesome products later this year or next year. An underwhelming product doesn't mean that Nvidia is dead.
Let's not forget that nVidia ended up dominated sales for the period between R600 and RV770 (although RV670 help stem the tide). If Fermi really is an R600 type scenario than nVidia is in far a dark time.
