***Want to borrow*** OK, can anyone be willing to let me borrow a dual core 775 socket chip. I don't care what kind just as long as I can put it in my Ep45-UD3R? I want to see if my Q9550 is the issue with the dual channel not working. I am at my last straw and don't have the funds to buy a dual core proc like a e8400 or anything.

If anyone would be willing to let me borrow one for a week to test, I would greatly appreciate it. I will pay for shipping to me and back and give you my word I will return after testing. I just really want to figure this out.

PM if you can help me. Thanks guys.

The M-Audio is my current card, and is in the bottom slot.

In the next couple days I am going to switch my 2 channel amp for a 5.1 Receiver I have (that I know works fine) and try the optical ports from the onboard setup...

Finally got the board this morning, and after a little fiddling, I got it swapped out for the MIIF without any bother. Pic is below, but no cables tidied as I got a bit eager to try it out

Although I don't really like the style of the board, i.e. colour scheme, and limited fan headers & sensors, it does seem to have a nicer build quality than the Asus. Looking at the SMDs placement, I think this has better accuracy than the MIIF which is something I'm used to spotting having worked in the industry in the past. It seemed as though the general design looked a lot more modular and efficient, and connectors felt a bit more solid too.

Anyway, after some fiddling, I'm tackling 500x9 straight on to see how I fair over the weekend, but think I am suffering issues with easytune 6. I keep getting a 'could not load device driver' error message, and only a few of the voltages match what I set in bios. the 'power on' values of VTT and the CPU & MCH reference in particular. Anyone had similar issues or am I missing something?

True its an ugly Mobo but if you have no side window wont matter.

Forget software, OC it in the Bios and let us know if you can get 500FSB with reasonable 24/7 voltages.

Thanks for the tip, it's a shame this kind of software is buggy, it would really save some time.. I'll probably be posting some filled out templates and asking for some hints, but I'm getting a good feel of the bios for now and will try to push as far as I can on my own. This bios is rather alien to me though, only slightly similar to the NF4-SLI-DR expert I used to use, but I can interpret the settings as I would the MIIF reasonably well, although there's aquite a few extra 'pages' in bios to explore
Reference settings seem much more sensitive so I imagine they'll be a lot easier to find than the mIIf was. I'm just having a bit of bother trying to get the cpu stable, past 8K atm. Seems like the board undervolts vcore by about .025v with llc enabled and temps are getting a little toasty for the CPU at 1.4v (~1.375 according to CPU-Z, speedfan & everest), but I hope to lower them, or get it stable. Using a higher CPU ref seemed to provide more stability, as with the MCH ref.

p.s. Everest is showing some 190 Watts power and 130 Amps being drawn. Seems like a hell of a lot for one of these compared to the mIIfat similar voltages, could it be down to the number of phases or do you think I should tread carefully??

@ In-Fluence, why are you messing with 1.4v CPU for now ?

Set CPU to stock so 1.25v (you can do 3GHZ on far lower) , lower Multi to 6 and try get 500FSB that we could not get stable on the MFII POS's.

    Looking good so far

Yeah, last night I came in a little enebriated after a work's xmas do, and was just trying to see what kind of voltages I might need for such speeds in comparison, but something obviously wasn't tuned right... anyway being able to boot trouble-free at this FSB without any REF voltage tuning has already stunned me - very pleased with this board, and once I get my head around how it reacts to different settings, I'll no doubt back back up to 9x multi soon.

just gonna try my luck at max fsb now, and see how much higher it can go. *edit: 540 always hung on login, and really want to tweak 500fsb first so will get back to that.

p.s. would you recommend moving over to the Fj bios? I assume the blank info on CPU-Z is due to me having FB onboard?

and one more question - sorry! Is there a difference between the F10B bios and the FB one (for example), or is it just interpreted differently by some?

Your setup reminds me of spider-man
Hehe, my mate said the same the other day - wasn't intentional but I can see where you're coming from. I just like contrasting colours

Can anybody point me to a template or a guide with the UD3R and a Q9550 please?

I'm new to overclocking these 45nm quads and would like some of the settings on the mobo explained so I know how to use them instead of just stumbling around blind.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help.

One more thing, I've read that those with quads should disable Load Line Calibration. Should I disable it ?

Here's what I've got so far, I tested this for 4 hours at 6x multi, and decided to reboot and go for 8.5. Current voltages are 1.31 vcore, 1.4 mch, 1.3 vtt. Vcore isn't tuned, and might be able to go lower, but progress is looking very good indeed, and I'm actually having a bit of fun with this board

I'm very pleased right now, so long as it stands the test of time I won't have any major complaints.

Never caused any problems for me, and you've got the same brand PSU, so I'd say it's safe, just watch your temperatures.

    Looking good all you guys!

How's the F11 bios? I'm on the F9 and wonder if I should flash to it. I heard you need more volts with the F11 vs. the F9 with the same settings. Lets here some experiences with F11.

Does anyone have any experience with Kingston's HyperX T1 series (big heat sink version) ram? I recently got 4 sticks of them for 8gig setup since my crucial Ballistix are starting to fail after a couple of months (like a lot of others). Its marketed as 1066 ram but apparently its meant be OCed from its true raw spec of ddr2 800. Thats fine, since it is supposed to be able to run at 1066 5-5-5-15 2.2V. However I could not get it past 850. Tried loosen the timing, bumped MCH voltage, tried with only one stick. Nothing seemed to work. Is it just me? or this is some sort of incompatibility of the ram with the E45-UD3R board.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Wow, you've barely gotten the board and you're getting some amazing results. I guess clocking quads on that board really is THAT much better than on a MIIF

I think after using the MIIF for so long you get a good knack for tuning. The gigabyte just seems to do it a lot finer and more consistently. Even at 550 fsb once tuned I could get it to boot regularly without a hitch.

I still have one boggle about the bios versions though - I'm currently using FD which seems to be a nice, quick, problem free bios. Is this also known as F10D or is there a difference? I'm looking at F10j for the sake of having the latest one, but it's not specifically for rev1.6.... could I flash this revision or not?

I wouldn't. I have Rev 1.6 my self and I'm on the newest FD as well.

    M-Audio Audiophile 2496

The M-Audio is my current card, and is in the bottom slot.

In the next couple days I am going to switch my 2 channel amp for a 5.1 Receiver I have (that I know works fine) and try the optical ports from the onboard setup...
I could REALLY use some help with this, should I make a new thread?

Switched to onboard digital audio and it's not any better
