    Thanks man, much appreciated!
Great work on your Superpi 1M... I really need to learn to lean up my OS more and get that efficiency!
You guys are just making me keep on pushing harder! Thanks for all of the encouragement!
What are we going to do to get past JMax-Hardware?

Don_Dan: I'm running a Kingston 3GB 2000mhz CL9 kit now... Seems to be ok for benching...
I didn't have time to push it past 1788mhz with 8-8-8-20 1T today but it ran super stable at that with 1.66v...

Hey guys I joined the team a few months back, been very busy with engineering classes, bench when I can in the mean time. Now I am looking to move to DICE or phase when I get some extra cash from work over winter break. Now I have a classified now with an i7 920 but I dont want to try my 1st DICE attempt on such nice parts, so i was thinking of getting a cheap but very good overclocking setup. Something like x48, old stuff, with an older CPU. Can anyone suggest some older parts I can get on the cheap but OC well, and same for motherboards, any good OCing boards? I was thinking core 2 duo with a x48 board? I dont want to spend more than $200 on these parts in case they get ruined when running DICE. Also anyone suggest a GOOD thermometer for DICE runs, possibly LN2 in the future, something under $100.
    Thanks

dice is pretty safe....insulation is what you need...lots of kneaded eraser and you're good....

i started with dice and a classified..its still alive after some stupid mishaps...

    x48s are expensive platforms still
    evga 790i
    asus rampage extreme..

p45s and e8xx e0's are good platforms for practicing...

1M is really all about raw mhz, you could try maxmem+ramdisk, but maxmem+ramdisk+ocx+tweaker will cause more harm then good, im affraid.

So just test which one is best really

    Serious aircooling setup!
I bet CES will be fun! Will you be able to bench for submissions for the team there?

    You're doing great work!

We're only 230 points away from JMax-Hardware, we'll catch them soon.

PCGH will be a bit thougher!

I'm really sorry I can't help out at the moment, I don't have the time to do anything concerning overclocking. That won't change until March 2010 too...
The only thing I can offer is help and info to everyone who needs it.

Where else will you go? Any chance you'll come over for Cebit and bench at MSI's booth?

And I got the same question as Linuxfan, will you be able to bench for points during CES?

checksum invalid mate, Jor has to rerun and rerun ! But he's getting there

@GoatEater, with 2 of them GTX 275's you can do serious damage on the bot

Big thanks to Don Dan and HondaCity for all the PM's and also to the others here that really helped squeeze it all (thijs and leeghoofd) The Ramdisk didn't work cause it keept crashing SuperPi with tight rams (4444-14-38). I also could not use the maxmem cause my XP crashed the msconfig So I used a 2nd empty SSD for SuperPi only and OCX Tweaker to help a bit.

The final result: 9.062s (I wish I could break the 9s barrier but it proved to be too much 15L/Ln2).

    ----
Now I need to break that damm PCMark05 only 500 points behind, but for that need better storage speed. Next will be Q9550/P45 and two E8600 (Q820)/X48_DDR3 (one gratz to Hondacity).

After that 2010 is time for finally benching some i7/i9/Amd's.

Jor reinstall XP with only chipset drivers, no GFX card drivers or co, then apply maxmem again 100ish value (will be slow when booting), disable 2 cores, so many things you still can try. You got a monster CPU there, it can do everything !! You really need Acard power man for that pcmark score (will be at least over 200mb/s) think you wil be in 25 region with that ( sell them SSD's :p) , also disable all the crap in ya IE (no images and co)...

also rerun pifast and co under XP mate, and redo them wprimes under LN2 ,now you are busy at it :p

My sucky sempron 140 scores were okay Jor yesterday when we submitted them. Either something is not 100% to date with the validation today... beter hope Massman is in a good mood :p (he likes chocolates )

Yeah I guess I have to redo all the scores again with Ln2. I'm selling them to get the Fusion IOXtreme my only problem is I guess that thing will surpass the limit on XP boot but there are ways around it.

Yeap I did, just needed to be gentle with it.
I had 3 pairs of Team Xtreem 1300 DDR2 lest and I had to mix and match them for like 7 hrs to get the best out of them at 2.6-2.7vdimm.

Congratulations on the kiler superpi Q9650 run!
I see that you tightened the ram latencies and got some more voltage in that CPU!

Thanks Linux I'm off work since Tuesday (because of 30 inches of snow) so I have all this extra time to play.

I did get the cpu running at 5Ghz and the rams at 1110Mhz 4-4-4-4-14-38 for that run. Very nice DDr2 set.

    EDIT----
    Updated results:
    Pifast: 18.83s: http://hwbot.org/compare.do?resultId=929836
    wPrime32m: 7s 580ms: http://hwbot.org/compare.do?resultId=929806
    wPrime1024m: 4m 2s: http://hwbot.org/compare.do?resultId=929838

Could tweak more but now more time today.

I will be going east instead of west on the one I eluded to - but Germany for cebit would be loads of fun

i figure I will be good if the parts are released by then - or I can hold onto the SSs
