You guys arent the only ones looking into 8+8pin configs.

On the other hand, we had the potential to fill a 400W power budget with performance, so we were considering using two 8-pin connectors and pushing this thing to its limits.
Ultimately, we went with a hybrid approach. We decided to appeal to the broader market and use a 6-pin + 8-pin power connector, but use the components from the 400W board design. We squeezed as much performance as we could out of the 300W, and left all the rest of the headroom as overclocking potential for you guys. It’s kind of like our Black Edition CPUs, where the premium chips are picked and shipped with unlocked multipliers so that you guys can overclock the @#$* out of them.

    I bet it will reach 1200$ !!
AMD feared Nvidia so asked TMSC for making few GPU chip.i don't think we should blame TMSC.TMSC could make more than this.

Yeah, because it's better for AMD to sell 10 000 cards for $400 than 100 000 cards for $329, not..

I believe his argument was that AMD want TSMC to reduce supply to inflate prices which sounds like pure rubbish to me. Why on earth would they want that?

    It's always like that though.

Businesses never pass on the savings when the dollar is excellent, they just gouge the market as hard as possible for as long as possible.

Even when the dollar is average they are still making a fair markup vs what you could get your own delivered.
Obviously running costs/taxes come into play but even with them its still terrible.

If newegg shipped AND added on a $200 processing fee for O/S people it would still be cheaper to put it into perspective for a 5970

I'm not sure if it's the same reason in Aus, but in Canada the retailers pay higher taxes as do the distributors, and there is no cheap way to ship in bulk into Canada, so that's an added cost as well, even though we've been averaging an exchange of .95-.98 of the american dollar, we're not that close to being 1-1 on prices. How are the Tariffs, brokerage, duties, etc over there ?

    No Way Jose!!!

Well let me start off by saying that i was once a ati fanboy, and yes they release new cards every week and they are good for the level minded gamer, but for anything more there worthless. Let me explain why, first off about a year and a half ago i had a pair of 4870x2 in quadfire = expensive pieces of dung not only did i got through 4 cards in total the most i was able to squeeze of them was 24k on vantage performance setting! about 6 months ago i got a pair of MSI single pcb gtx295's for $470 each new!!! and off the bat with slight overclocks i squeezed out 32k with phsyx off and 40k with physx on in vantage, i desimate all games, trust me, the cards came stock at 576 core, but for every day use i run a 680 and for benchmark only at 690 and thats with stock air cooling, and if you dont believe me check my build out:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53Kg44P88wg

    and my latest upgrades:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UfbX9itqyz8

and it gets better, cause when i herd ati was gonna release the 5970, i told myself its time to upgrade but not when i saw this video:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Np4B9pDoqz8

i know there at stock clocks but are you serious? these cards cant out perform cards that have been out for sale more than a year now, even tho there overclocked?????

P.S. if i were to go water on the gtx295's ill be in the 36k or more i doubt 5970 at 1ghz in crossfire could get there, and please dont tell me its cause of the drivers.... cause im still waiting for the drivers everyone promised on my 4870x2's lol ati cards scale horribly

    My god,

-1 for taking 3Dmark seriously as a gamer
    -1 for mentioning Physics
-1 for comparing something the OP wasn't about (you comparing OC'ed GTX 295's to stock 5970 when the OP is about stock GTX 295's vs 1GHz 5970)
    -1 for reviving a thread
-1 for for saying ATi drivers suck when nvidia are even worse when it comes to drivers.

    -5 in all
    i7 920 @ 4GHz 1.25v
    GTX 470 @ 859MHz 1062mv

All buyers are nerds, all those who failed to buy one are just slow nerds.

    Agonies, you fail.

Who take vantage as an indicator of 3D Performance? 3DMark is biased, don't you see the PhysX logo's everywhere?

I used to own an 8800 GTS 640MB, wonderful card. It eventually died of the massive heat the G80 core put out. So, I bought an ATI 4850. Again, an amazing card at the time. I paid $150 for it vs. the $400 I layed down for that 8800 GTS. The 8800 GTS was the biggest waste of money I've ever spent on computer parts.

    PS: Tagan PSU's suck.
