Until it actually makes it to market and we have independent verification that it works then it is vaporware. You have seen Duke Nukem screenshots right?

Sorry but this is BS. If 3dfx's tech was so fantastic they wouldn't have gone belly up and gotten mopped up by Nvidia in the first place. Not to mention their tech back then was cost inefficient from a manufacturing standpoint and completely irrelevant in today's world. Back then graphics cards were little more than texture units.

Nvidia has held back some things - rotated grid AA comes to mind and maybe even tessellation too (we'll only know how practical tessellation would've been on past architectures when we see how it does on the new cards). But in terms of growth of the industry itself? Name another company that has done more to promote the PC as a gaming platform.
Truth is 3dfx was suing Nvidia for patent infringement ( just in case your not sure that means nvidia was stealing their tech..)

This was all about the time of the Dot Com bust and 3dfx's share price had been substantially hit by this..Truth is Nvidia had deeper pockets and in stead of paying billions in patent law suits (which 3dfx would have prevailed) it was easier to just put up boat loads of cash and buy em out and end the Law Suits... do some research if you dont taker my word for it....

While Nvidia has made some ground breaking inroads in technology they are theifs no less and Like other major Corps have suppressed technology for their own greed, is that wrong I am not a judge, that is capitalism of which I participate on a daily basis I assure you

But what I speak is truth not a blatant bashing for the envy of such, but rather a simple presentation of the facts.. Like it or not it is truth, and no I do not wish to be socialist or communist ( but Im sure your a right winger just by your stance, as our former presidents stance of with us or against us attitude) For the record I do not wish for socialism or communism as your McCarthian brain would imagine but rather a man who simply seeks truth and JUSTICE, and the true American way... Isn't that why we formed these United States ??
So take your head outta your A$$ and try be what it is our Forefathers yearned for..... Equal, Honest, and, Just....... If you cant just keep Imagining I'd rather be a "red" cause thats easier for your head to develop vs the TRUTH!!!!

well i just did a quick google search and found that 3dfx infringed several patents from nvidia on memory contollers and nvidia stole a texture mapping technique from 3dfx. why would this case be special? your world is a bit ideal. no corporation is going to be perfect, not even close. their main goal is to make money in the end of it all. to me it sounds like nvidia came out on top.

Ideal world is only what I'd yearn to see, unfortunately I know we do not live in an ideal world and was why I stated I participate every day in this capitalistic game... I just get pissed when someone states or assumes Im a socialist because I don't agree with big business practices... Nvidia is not like some evil empire, I never said that, what I said is their greed has taken away from the progress in technology, That is only my opinion..I know I will most likely never see the "Ideal World" come to fruition, but when I see an article, as biased as it may be on the MSI deal , I just see the truth, Nvidia killing something that may benefit everyone in our community, by a behemoth that has the power and clout to force another company to stop what they are doing because it may be diminishing to their bottom line... And I know this may sound consperical but it happens every day in our world... Is it right or wrong? You be the judge, But I am no Socialist just a guy that sees technology being set back as a result of greed...

In the grand scheme of things they are technologies that PC's have that consoles don't. On one hand people piss and moan about console restrictions forcing their way to the PC and now you piss and moan about tech that allows the PC to stand above and beyond. No Nvidia doesn't give a crap about ATI, they want people to play PC games and they want them to do so on Nvidia hardware. Duh.

If you can point to initiatives from other companies to grow the market we'd love to hear them.
Beyond stupid is your selective reply.
You first come on glorifying NVIDIA by sayng: "Name another company that has done more to promote the PC as a gaming platform."

I made some points without going much into details since we have few threads about it already, but you choose to ignore them.

The point is that NVIDIA is promoting NVIDIA not PC gaming platform and some of the moves NVIDIA made lately are actually detrimental for PC gaming platform.

If AMD start doing the same we will no longer have PC gaming platform.

In 2010 Nvidia is going to ramp up their stupid program even more IMO, and segregate and screw gamers even further. Nvidia is bad for PC gaming, period.

pointing out small things like being late with dx11 hardware is not in anyway holding back pc gaming. if thats true then ATi has done just as much harm with dx10. you really fail to see what nvidia is doing. they are making the market for gpu's bigger while ATi sits back and watches. why do you think they push things like physx and gpgpu? their architecture since g80 has dominated ATi too. making points about physx being proprietary does not help either. you dont create an API and give it away for free. nvidia is willing to license physx and Ati has denied it. who is holding back pc gaming now? you cant say proprietary is a bad when there is no open solution. what makes that even more ironic is that nvidia has had opencl 1.0 compliant drivers long before ATi. how about proprietary tessellation on ATi cards that nvidia could not use? that is holding me back. come on ATi.

Fail. The Bullet Physics library is open. I'm not even going to tackle the rest of your equally inaccurate points, they have already been refuted in the past and I'm lazy, lol.

Yes, Nvidia wants to kill off PC gaming their bread and butter.

I agree on DX 10.1 but at the end of the day Vista's image held back DX10 more than you people could ever dream of Nvidia doing. I'm not a fan of this proprietary Physix but what other choice do we have now? CUDA and Physix (in the hands of Nvidia) has moved along both technologies. There is no debating that. They renamed G80/92 a few times since it was such a great gpu. Did that harm you in any way? Your average customer did not get screwed. Hell your average consumer will never upgrade their video card if they even have one. The damn cards still competed very well at their price point. How is any of this relevant to this thread? It's just another lets bash Nvidia fest in the XS news section.

It's the 3rd largest physics library behind PhysX and Havoc. GTA4 uses Bullet, for example. I was trying to find out exactly what games use it, but this post makes me think that such information won't be readily available.

I had assumed that we are talking about hardware physics here. If not I don't see what your point was.

hmmm what are you still talking about here?? i thought this was between nvidia, msi and hydra... why is ati/amd on the picture again?? hehehe ^_^

    @topic
it won't really surprise me if nvidia do something like that to hold off hydra and i wouldn't be surprised either if amd follows suit too unless the hydra chip is made to be proprietary like PCi-e slot so mehh

and its just now being ported to opencl. it will take some time to make it into a triple a game. its been on cuda for a while now so it hopefully wont take that long. i would love to see this in real time and in a game engine that could use it properly.

Closing thread as news article has been officially retracted.

Edit: Per MSI, they are on for early 2010 with board production being planned for some time in November. They are smoothing out driver issues.
