Noctua Launch 140mm cooler

Anyway, it is obvious that Noctua is interested in silent computing, so this one is probably optimised for low air-flow and will not shine at high air-flow. It would be great with a real test. Maybe with different fan-options, like
3 fans, and other fans (with high static pressure) too?.

Well, we will try to have a test as complete as possible, just like we did on our LGA 775 round-up. Just as a side note, I just finished a test today with a silent PC built using mostly Noctua solutions, and I might say that for the average Joe, the system is mighty powerfull and very silent. Of course, it will not satisfy the silent pc maniac which is dreaming about a complete fanless PC, but for most people this is pretty darn silent. Maybe a NH-D14 could lower the CPUtemps even more, we will see about that

It's just the opposite, no? The NF-P12 is the one with higher static pressure (1.68 mm H2O) but lower airflow and is intended for CPU HSFs, or restrictive/obstructed airflow applications; where the NF-S12 has lower pressure (1.31 mm H2O) but higher airflow and is meant for less obstructed ventilation.





I've been cooling an E8400 clocked around 4 MHz for quite awhile now on a single NF-P12 with no issues. (Cooled a hotter E6600 with good results as well.) I'm also happy with the NF-S12's and NF-R8's I'm using for case duties.

Right, well you could have used 2 NF-P12's on the NH-U12 HSF for the i7, or now the new HSF with larger 140mm fans. Of course for max o/c's more CFM might have been needed, but then more noise.

For everyone who wonder how good this new cooler performs. I've already received a sample and tested it on my testing-rig based on a Intel Core i7 920. Reference-fans are two Noctua NF-P12 (with the NF-P14 I'll test tomorrow), which I used on every cooler for better comparement.



With one fast fan, this monster is just a little bit better than the Megahalems and with two of them it's about 2k better. Even more impressive results you'll get with low-RPM-fans. With two 600RPM the Noctua NH-D14 beats the Megahalems at (at....by....at....by....at? Oh, i wish i could write in german ^^) about 5,5k, not bad, ha? ^^

Ever thought about the fact that there's also "xtremely silent", "xtremely efficient", "xtremely nice looking" and/or "xtremely innovative".
I do agree that this is indeed xtremesystems, but that doesn't mean that anything around here has to be about POWER, POWER and POWER only.

I dont believe that the appearance of the fans is nearly as important as the function of the fans. That front fan has vortex notches, wondering if the center fan does as well? I have read about these vortex notches and it seems to improve the flow of air. That may have a very large impact on the performance of this cooler.

some people don't care about its color scheme and rather grab them for "performance" but some people build systems to look great and its not like Noctua has the "best" fans they are many options out there...but these are great just color sucks.

i just got my hands on 2 NFP12 fans for my V350 and i have to say that they are quiteter than my old s-flex @800rpm while running at higher RPM and pushing more air
the s-flex fans had some issues with low frequent buzzing noise when running at low rpm similar to hd 4870 coil buzzing under extreme 3D load (furmark)

if you want proper low noise fans + coolers then noctua is the way to go

Wow it seems I singled out myself in saying that 'I like' the high powered fans and that in an even earlier post said that I was not a fan of Noctua fans. To most people that is pretty much an open and shut case to what I like and dislike. I did not define nor implied that everyone must do the same. If you have to just keep reading the last line over and over again so it sinks in. Sorry but I do not like trolling posts. Stop putting words/implications or definitions that do not exist in peoples posts just so you can try and come out looking like your an intelligent being. I do not like their fan plain and simple. I like the one's I have in my link. End of story!

Now back on topic to what I think is a great product even though I do not like the fans.

I don't put words in other poeple's mouth and I do know how to read and comprehend. You don't seem to know the whole meaning of what you wrote. That seems to be the problem. If you post something like "This is XtremeSystems don't forget!" you do imply something with it. And don't tell me that you just put it there for no reason.
In this context it clearly means something along the lines of "I like powerful SanAce fans and you should like them, too, because this is xtremesystems and that's what we prefer around here.".

Now, prove me wrong! I just don't like the attitude of some people, who think that they must dictate what's discussed on the forums. If someone wants to write about silent cooling and energy saving, relatively slow CPUs, why not let him, instead of telling him that "this is xtremesystems".

I hope you understood what I'm trying to say. BTW, all the ROFL smilies, don't really make up for the lack of arguments in a discussion.

Now this is an interesting picture. Does the points on the fins help heat dissipation? Or would it just be a dust trap waiting to happen?
