All along the watchtower the watchmen watch the eternal return.
nice read i agree with some bits and disagree with other parts.
Its mostly just an observation.
I agree that most companys r to blind to see the real problem to piracy.
And i completely agree with the kid that ripped that SimCity game. I loved simcity and when that new one came i read loads of reviews where they said it was diffrent so i ripped it and i hated it and uninstalled it in less then 10 min of playing, they rly shouldnt have called it SimCity.
I think alot of companys also blame piracy because sales r lower then what they expected. But sales r lower because the quality of games has gone down.
Also there is more competition.
At the start the PC and console both had their own games and now PC games also apear on the console so the console wil ofc steal away sales of the PC version.
People can only spend their money once and they wont buy the same game on more then 1 platform. You cant expect a PC game to sell as good as the previous PC title did if the new one also apears on several consoles.
Like said people can only spend their money once and nowadays there is alot of competition, 3 consoles, 2 handhelds, cell phones and other things that cost money that didnt exist 10 or 20 years ago.
The amount of downloads on a torrent site doesnt equal to amount of piracy or even the amount of lost customers.
I pirate games to test them and sometimes it means they lose my sale (cause the game sucks) and sometimes it means they have won a sale cause it rocked and i bought it.
I did like the bit in the article where he wrote that companys dont care if u buy a game and hate it because they already have their sale. And that they dislike it if u rip it find out it sucks and dont end up buying it.
I think it was a Sony exec who said that they think piracy would go down if games where cheaper and im shure sales would increase if prices would go down. Its one of the reasons why the sites that sell key codes have been growing so fast. You get the game on launch day (and can even download from Steam if its a steam game) and you pay alot less then in retail or on Steam.
