    Project: CMPure

The case that will be modded is Cooler Master 690 PURE Black Window Edition. Very sleek stock look already, but still so much to improve

    To-do list:
    • Remove the bottom fan grill (one below PSU)
    • Custom front mesh panel
    • Custom roof mesh panel
    • Water temp display integrated to the front panel
    • Remove all the stock fans
    • Sleeve all the cables
    • Remove the HDD-cage
    • Build "flowing" HDD-brackets
    • Cover the insides (including fan spots) with insulation mats
    • Hole for the fillport on top
    • Etc...

So basically this will be all-internal cpu-only loop with the 280 rad on the top of the case. I'll try to keep the lights in this system modest; only one 30cm UV cathode and maybe one 10cm red one. Next spring I might add second loop to the case for the GPU, I have all the front panel area cleared for that. For now my goal is to build system that is silent yet has good cooling performance and last but not least, is still somewhat portable so I can take it easily to lanparties.

First part is here, and I gotta say I really like this one.

It's quite larger than the 240's, and I hope it has enough cooling capasity for overclocked i7, what do you guys think?

Take those case feets off! Ugly as hell xD GTS280 radiator is more than enough for Core i7, My friend have Corsair WC (120) for Core i7 4Ghz and temps are pretty good..

    HK greatness:

My first time with compression fittings. Nice black nickel finnish:

Could someone please tell me WHAT THE IS THE DEAL WITH THIS BACKPLATE?!?! It has to be bought separately and the quality is crap

This is my pump top/temp sensor/comp fitting combo, discussed earlier in here.

Bottom of the case. I removed the fan filter and I'll cover all the floor with some nice black sound dampening material to keep it clean and block the unused fanhole etc.

The roof from the inside. I'll cut those grills off and mount the fans inside the case (to get some nice red glow from the window). Radiator will go on the top. I'll have to cut holes for the radiator threads so it can lay down nice and firmly. I think I'll block that exhaust fan hole too with some mat.

Rad screwholes and the case's standard 140mm holes are perfect fit.

The roof and the front panel had this kind of double mesh. It didn't make sense to me so I cutted out the bigger, plastic mesh from the inside (note: the pic is taken before the modification).

From the A.C. Ryan mesh panel I'll make a new roofpanel for the case. It will be done from one single piece and it wont have any of those usb etc ports in it. Main reason for doing this is that I'll have to raise the roof a bit to get the radiator under the mesh.

The temp display and those two usb-ports will br re-located here (insane paint skills):

That's all for now folks, stay tuned fo updates. Next weekend I'll hopefully install the dampening mats and make holes for the radiator. I might have enough time to do the custom roofpanel too

The white sticker comes off. The backplate really isn't that bad. It does its job and you don't see it anyways.

I have to agree with you on the looks of the backplate . When i got mine, i was insanely dissapointed about all those scratches and the not so nice surface. But! it has a purpose, and its not like we're gonna see it often :P

Thanks for the feedback guys. I know it will do the job just fine, but the quality just doesn't make any sense to me Anyway I'm more than pleased with the block itself, and I'm eagerly waiting to get it on duty

can't wait to see what you'll do of your CM690

I had one first for my last rig, but abandoned it because of lack of ventilation through the rad!
got rid of it for a cosmos s instead!

if you actually wanna have enough air through a top rad, you're probably gonna have to cut the case out (like this guy did : here)
'cause the 25mm-thick fans don't fit otherwise.

or you can get these : scythe slip stream slim

    here's what I had

    Minor updates

I bought some random stuff during the weekend that I'd like to share with you guys.

First of all, my favorite thermal grease, Zalman ZM-STG1. It's super easy to apply and it performs quite well too.

And I also bought new mousepad (as the old one was falling apart). Left one is the new Q-Pad UC Medium and on the right my old Q-Pad Aim Lowsense. The new pad is bit slickier than I wanted but overall it's really nice. Should have gone with the Large size tough..

I managed to do some progress with the case itself. I cutted most of the insulation mats and placed them on their spots. I'll paint them all matt black to match the scheme. You can also see the gutted front panel and pump placement from these pics. Notice that I also cutted my first piece of tubing for this build, yay

I installed the rad and fans to the case last weekend. I also painted the mats and made some micro tube routing. Check this out:

Loop will be y-pump-cpu-rad-y and obviously the fillport will be connected to the y-piece.

Sorry guys, over two months since last update..

But it's finally almost done! FInal hardware can be now found on the sig, other info above the pictures. Enjoy:

Most of the two months I actually just waited for the hardware to come (everything seems to be out of stock in europe):

Top two fan grills and the one for PSU was cutted out and edges rounded like this:

Every other fan spots are covered with damping material.

Got hardware in the case and it was time for some serious cable management:

    The money shot:

    Window:

The lights aren't actually so bright, I just suck taking pics in the dark. There's only one 10cm red and one 30cm uv-CCFL (both can be switched off) and the Yate's have red leds. I have still few bits and pieces that have to be properly fixed to their place, but otherwise it's quite ready and I'm happy with it

I'm back in action guys and gals!

I moved to a new apartment back in March and I had to change my ISP because of that. Things didn't go as smoothly as planned and I had to be without proper internet connection almost four months and I still don't have hard line coming to my place. Right now I'm barely managing with Telewell TW-EA515 + Huawei 1820 combo...

So during that time I made some finishing touches to my build and it cenrtainly didn't come out as planned but it is nevertheless just as functioning as it should have been. Temps are semi-high for my taste (~35-40C) but regardless of the cpu usage stay under 60C. You just have to keep in mind that I'm running 3.2 GHz and those two fans on radiator spin ~900rpm and circulate all air in the chassis at the same time. This was my first time in six years that I've used stock mounting for hdd's and such a open frontpanel layout so I was a bit shocked by the sound the system made. So I changed my os hdd to Seagate Momentus Xt SSD HDD Hybrid and my two larger drives now shut down after 10 minutes of idle. I also installed new improved sound dampening mat so I'm quite pleased with the looks and the low humming noise the system makes now. High rpm fan on the gpu doesn't bother me because I use headphones while playing games.

Enough text, lets see some photos:
