Is everyone here using the DQ6? I have a 780i. Now that fall is coming on and cooler temps are here I am going to make some more runs at the OC.

I have read mixed reviews about lapping the heat-killer, so I will let it be... Funny don't want to ruin a $90 waterblock, instead I am taking a sandpaper to $349(what I paid for it) CPU....

Thank you for the kind words as well!
There will be more shenanigans to come.
In my experience, even though not perfect, CPU's are a lot flatter than heatsinks/blocks. Also as you said, a block is a lot cheaper than a Q9650. If I were you, I'd try lapping the block at least a small amount, before lapping the cpu.

I have improved watercooling in the works as I just know that this chip has plenty more to give and which I am ready to receive

4.4GHz at 1.328v actual in CPU-Z feels so good and just rocks - I am so happy

Thanks so much to you all for all your continued contributions here and I wanted to give this back
Congrats on the great cpu, very nice overclock.

Thanks for the good luck wishes!

It transpires that I placed the order, finance gets agreed, then they go and sell their last 2 to someone else! I'm not going to name & shame them, but I'm a tad peeved about it! Particularly as this is coming with 8Gb of OCZ blades and a handful of modding trinkets. They have reassured me it won't be long though so I'll hopefully get it in time for the weekend.

Based on your VID, it should be able to go higher than 4.1 on the right board. Same your UD3P wasn't working well for you.

Very nicely done, could you please post your BIOS template or PM me with it? Haven't really pushed my REX with the Q9650 but 4GHz was very easy, would be interesting to see your settings.

    I can, sorta.

But life with 8 GB isn't nearly as easy as with 4 GB, & i much prefer 8 GB with a lower clock to 4 GB with higher.

I did indeed buy a UD3P for a bit, but i wasn't very happy with it. (This was with my Q9550 & Mushkin 8 GB previously, granted.)
I saw right away how nice it was for clocking w/ 4 GB, but then i put the other two DIMMs in, & it turned into crap.
I couldn't even get it to POST past 467 FSB unless i was using the 266 strap, & while i eventually i thought i got 8.5x471 stable, the exact same setting were unstable the next time i ran stesstesting (they'd passed before).
In general, i found the board to be very inconsistent & flakey for 8 GB use, so i went back to my P5Q-D, where at least i find it consistent.

    Here's i'm running 4.275 GHz
    http://ense7en.com/pics/q9650/Q9650%...e%202%20hr.JPG

It's not really stable though, & i don't like running settings that don't run everything i throw at it.
Also, temps get too high around 4.2 GHz or higher as somehow even my lapped TRUE sucks.

Well vantage was weird... MY gpu score was lower when I run it on single card overclocked. I know the sli is working cuz I can turn second card off and on in nvidia control panel... but something is definitely not working.
Overclocked single gtx 295 I got P24.1K in vantage, with 2 of them only 20.5K(not oc'ed)... so I need to tinker with it a bit. Cuz I should at least break 25K

You should do at least the same as me with that batch mate, but what revision of ud3p you had ? 8GB with the UD3P is perfectly doable

yes i got lucky with my i7-920
but im still learning this i7 stuff
but i just really like LGA775 stuff
it just seems to be more fun
    tweaking on the UD3P/Q9650
    with ddr2 memory,but like i said
im very new to i7,maybe ill find
it to be fun in time.

Your i7 is epic radaja, you should be very happy with it.

I feel the same though, i7 I find quite boring to overclock and tweak, but perhaps as you said it may grow on me. I just use it as my workstation / game pc though, I have no real desire to push it hard or bench it. Mine does 4.2 @ 1.296v so it's ok, but its not as nice as yours.

Keep looking around for a Q9650, they can be damn nice chips, and this thread is proof. I don't have the right board to get the most out of mine though. I just came across my chip by pure luck, I was looking for a good i7 batch and I saw the L847C Q9650 and took the chance.

Keep on at it I'm going to start heading north of 4.4GHz once my water cooling enhancements have been added to the mix as that will allow me to push further.
