Double top for d5, anyone have plans for something like that?

Anyone knows if there is a top for double d5?? or if someone is going to realase something like that?

The d5 have less attention lately. There is no new top for it since a long time ago.

I was thinking on running 2 d5 in series in my loop, but two d5 took up a lot of space . . . with a top it would be more clean and less blulky i thing . . .

Now im thinking on getting some ddc

    LOL

Why do u think ive been saying i hate D5's for the past 2 yrs now....

And no i dont think there will unless BoXGods deices to dual his T3.
However if u look at the design it would no longer fit in a standard 5 1/4 bay.

That is why its very difficult to make a dual D5.

Just get a T3 and run some parallel loops.

If you want dual pumps, just get a couple of DDCs.

Im not looking for dual loops, im looking for 2 d5 in series so beside the increment in flow or head pressure, it will be more reliable

I just dont like ddc itself really (love the tops and configurations you can do with them) . . .the d5 it seems to me much more safe and solid

My 2 D5s at 5speed is quieter than a T3 at speed 4 plus more flow actually. Although it wuoldn't be nice and compact, but far less chances of leaking IMO. I think there is no product that works for everyone.

Look at these photos. You have an inlet on the bottom and outlet on top. you can run in series by having the resevoir run to the center inlet of the first pump to the top outlet of the first pump into the bottom inlet of the second pump then out to the top or center outlet of the second.

Yeah i know that with the tops that are in the market you can put with some tubing and fittings, 2 d5 in series . . .

. . . buttttttt it also would be nice that someone makes a top like the xspc for 2 d5 instead of 2 ddc . . . is not to hard if you consider it.

    A quick sketch

Something like that would be really nice

I see what your saying. add an elegant mounting solution with the top and I'd be interested.

    *Sigh*

No one ever listens to me..

You cant make a Dual top and have it fit in a 5 1/4 bay...

My friend a while back ago had to actually cut his 5 1/4 bay to fit 2 D5's.

Trying to figure out where you would put that in a normal case.

That's just because the part that screws in with the notches all over it makes the pumps a lot wider. If you only had the parts with the actual pump parts with a custom top they could fit fine.

Right now i cant measure my d5, but it's about 6 cm diameter, so 12 cm length and a 5 1/4 bay is abour 14cm

So it would be hard (not impossible) to do it that way . . . sooo it can ve mounted like this

Or another configuration . . . there are a lots of alternatives

    DetroitAC, EK, and Koolance.

Unfortunately, it seems he stopped producing the DetroitAC top

They use a custom one, but is still the same!!!

But, doing the ring smaller, you can mount 2 d5 in one 5 1/4 bay more easy

With a double top, you can actually reduce a lot that ring to fit in one bay . . . hope that someone with prior experience (making d5 tops) take the initiative for making the first double d5 top

Detroit AC doesn't use a ring. It's not as wide as a regular D5. I'm not certain about 2. You will still have to secure the pump to the top and you will either need to do it like the T3 retention ring or the Detroit AC style with the 4 tabs. I don't think you could mount the pumps as close as you are thinking you can.

Blasphamy!! are u saying u know more about koolance then me?

    The sky is falling...!!

Iono which koolance you were looking at... but that looks like that black ring..

Im fairly sure all the tops use a ring of some kind. There would be no other way to secure the D5 motor.

And you would be setting yourself up on that breaking...
    :\

Once again another bling > performance debate....
That ring is that thick for a reason.

Guess I should of looked harder for the pic. I forgot I was going after the Koolance king here.

I standby DetroitAC not using one though.

why not make a dual D5 top that worked like that one DDC top in which the pumps are on opposite sides of the top. This way you can cut down on the width. (granted it will be a tall SOB)

It's funny because everyone is assuming you have to put the D5's in a straight line. By just putting them at a slight angle from each other you could easily put them in a 5.25 bay.

I'm not for it one way or another but as master machinist I have learned there is always a way to accomplish something if you think about it hard enough!

BTW IMO I think the DDC lends itself better to mods because of it's shape.

Thats true, thats one of the alternatives that i thought.

Like i said before, there are a lot of alternatives to make it.
