The problem is that PCI-E standard allows a card to use up to 300 W of power. Adding more power connectors won't help. If the card uses more than 300 W in PCI-SIG's internal testing(which is done for every PCI-E product, they don't use furmark), it won't be PCI-E certified and thus can not be sold as PCI-E product.
