Maybe i ll give it a try in the future but for now main reason is that i'm very happy with my volts, especially the "normal" option of vcore. (see the my above post 3813 for full settings)
I m afraid i ll need to juggle a lot with the power options for the big 4, so not that excited about it.

3.8 suits me just fine, except for the damn rams which frustrates me to run below factory spec.

    Any opinion on 21*180 vs 19*200;

Cheers for your time and answers mate

And what's wrong with me hugging my hardware? Don't you know it makes it more likely to go faster? :P

I'll try playing with the settings tongiht, see what I can get out of her

Damn it Bex, that board looks sweet with those blocks fitted!!

Though I much prefer the HK 3 copper CPU block than the XSPC Delta 3, but still, it looks very nice indeed!

I'm in the process of setting up my first ever custom loop, and I had only planned on watercooling my CPU and GPU, but after seeing this pic, it has made me seriously consider putting my board under water to, as it looks so much cooler with those blocks, instead of the stock passive heatsinks.

One thing though Bex, is that mobo lying directly onto a carpet?!?!

Doesn't the thought of static electricity worry you??

Did you fit everything yourself, yes?

I have got just about everything I need to setup my loop now, I'm just waiting to get my HK 3 block, and then I will be ready to start, but I am actually quite frightened about starting it, as I am scared incase I damage my GPU when I get round to removing the stock cooler, as I read that the GTX280 cooler can be a real PITA to remove, but I have read up quite a lot of stuff over the last couple of months, preparing myself for this, so I am sure everything will be just fine!!!

I think I will stick with only cooling my CPU and GPU to begin with, and if everything goes smoothly, I will buy those mobo blocks and get my board under water to, as it would look really good having the entire system water cooled!!

It will have to be those acetal top blocks that I go for as well, as I don't really like the look of the acrylic ones.

@javanese, I am unsure about the 21x180 vs 19x200 thing mate, I guess having higher Bclk should give you slightly better performance though, as QPI and Uncore speeds will be slightly higher??

Maybe someone else can chime in here though, as I am not 100% sure man.

Sorry for going off topic, but does anyone know if S3 Sleep works properly with the F9e BIOS? I'm still on the F6e bios and was thinking of updating...

    hi

i have watercool a few motherboards (nforce 680 did need it) but the x58 and the ud5 do not seem to get that hot and not enought to effect over clocking
the ioh (NB heat sink) will need a little air flow when using a water cooled cpu

Lol dear god no - its got cardboard underneath it, it's just not very clear in the pic.....

Fitted it all myself, dead easy. I'd the Delta V3 from my previous build and I'm a bit poor so until I have more funds that's what I'll be using.

I've honestly thought hard about doing that and as much as I would like to get to 4GHz on lower voltages than what my 940 will, the times that I have clocked to that speed have not given me anything in the way of better vantage scores (this pc's only purpose is for gaming). I gained an extra 400 points on top of my regular result which to me is nothing, so I am happy for the time being.

In saying all that, if I could sell my 940 for the same price of a new 920, I may just sell the thing. Only problem now is that everyone has cracked on to the 920 D0's being a much better chip, looking quickly on ebay, the 940's look like they are going for half the price of a new 920. Whilst that would help, I really don't see the point in spending even more on this set up when it does everything just as well as when it is clocked to 4.1GHz paired with my now smallish GTX 260's.

@Bex, phew, I am glad that there was cardboard underneath that mobo!!

You have definitely inspired me to get those blocks for my UD5, as it looks so much nicer than the stock heatsinks.

Can I ask you what your entire loop consists of?

As I am a little worried that what I am using won't be good enough for my system to keep the temps nice and low.

Here is what I will be using in mine:

    XSPC DDC 10w Pro Pump/Reservoir

    Aqua Computer 120.3 Rad

    XSPC RS240 rad

    Heatkiller 3 Copper CPU Block

    EK FC-GTX280 block and backplate

DTek 1/2" High Flow barbs (I will be changing these fittings out for some Bitspower compression fittings at some point)

XSPC 7/16" ID 5/8" OD White Tubing

    Akasa Apache 120mm fans

I will only be using my triple rad to begin with, but I will be getting my Silverstone TJ07 next month, which has much more room for watercooling, so I will fit my XSPC rad into the loop as well which should help with the cooling.

This should cope with a GTX280 and my overclocked i920 right?

@nipper, I didn't realize that the 940's were getting sold for such low prices, I thought you would probably be able to sell it on for a good bit more than the price of a D0 920, but I just checked ebay there, and from what I could see they are selling for around ฃ260 mostly, which is just a little more than the cost of a D0 920.

@Sniper, that is a really good chip you have there, I wish that I could have gotten a Bloomfield Xeon instead of another 920..

Here in Australia, the buy-it-now price for a 940 on average tend to be around $400 - $500 for a brand new chip. When I purchased my "920" the 940's were $1000.

Remember that my chip would be 2nd hand, there is no hope that I could get anywhere near the 400 - 500 dollar mark as anyone with half a brain would buy the new chip over the 2nd hand one. The 940's with no buy it now price are struggling to hit half of what the news ones are going for from a quick observation and they are still brand new chips, not 2nd hand.

It's a pity as I would very likely upgrade otherwise. Not to worry anyway as my impulsiveness to have new toys will overwhelm me at some point.

Hey guys, I need some help getting stable. I am trying for 4GHz with a 920 D0 on the UD4P. I was able to pass 12 hours of small ffts P95, but I can not pass large ffts at all. So I started increasing QPI/VTT and IOH one at a time trying to find a setting. But, I just can't get it. I went up to 1.455v but that didn't work.

Maybe it has to do with the memory timings? I am running OCZ obsidian 1600 kit at the standard timings, but I left the sub timings at auto. Maybe I need to adjust those? Advice is welcome as I have no experience with that.

    Try disabling VT.

I recommend that you upgrade to F10d BIOS as anything after F9c didn't do so well (for me that is).

Hi all, i've some questions, i recently got a UD5 with 920 and geil 2133mhz 9-9-9-28 2T dualchan kit memory, tried the latest f9e bios it won't work with 1866mhz 8-8-8-24 1T. I flash to a older version f7, should i try other newer bios like f8s or f9a/d? whats the best bios for UD5 now?

Got board whilst trying to boot with 4.7Ghz and decided to try out some things... Seems setting your board to "standard" is better than "turbo" or "extreme" at stock speeds, going to do a comparision with higher overclocks but I think it's going to be the same...

Interestingly though, "turbo" dishes out the same results as "standard"

I'm waiting on a response too so I can have a go!

By the way, if anyones interested, the SuperPi testing is getting interesting with the Standard, Turbo and Extreme settings

I got given this mod a while back, but I took one look at the size of them resistors and thought "%&ฃ* that!!", that pic is probably slightly larger than the resistors on the mobo..

I suck with a soldering iron, so I wouldn't dare try a mod like this.

One thing though, I was able to break the 222 Bclk wall with my board, not by much, 227 or thereabouts.

I did this by setting Bclk in the BIOS to 222, booting into Windows, and then using SetFSB in baby steps until I hit 227MHz.

I tried for more but it just wouldn't go any higher, my system kept locking up beyond 227...

Wish that I knew someone who was capable of performing this mod, as I would get them to do it on one of my UD5's so I could do some serious overclocking..

TBH though, unless you are using extreme cooling, there really isn't any need to perform this mod really..

Some more results with Pi and Standard / Turbo / Extreme settings!

At 4Ghz "Turbo" mode does indeed benifet the CPU's performance

    Theory tested with both 191 x 21 (TB) and 200 x 20 (TB Off) with 191 x 21 coming out on top by - wait for it - 0.001s

I intend on testing further - will look at 4.2Ghz seeing as how this is the next popular OC level and 4.4Ghz then if I can, 4.6Ghz - at some point the extreme has gotta marginally come top surely?

PS. Ignore volts - they are set to auto for testing atm - so but on both tests they remained the same throughout the process (TB on was 0.76v more-ish)
