Hi everyone, I have been reading for hours trying to understand, there's a lot more to overclocking these newer systems compared with 8 years ago.

I've been running an E8600 stable for the last 10 months at 4.3Ghz on Air below 50c 1.3375Vcore but I'm keen to see if I can push a little more out of it with more than just raising the Vcore, any advice would be very appreciated.

I did initially try for higher but found beyond 4.3 that it started needing a lot more voltage, I was able to get it almost stable at 4.5 with somewhere around 1.45-1.5+vcore no sure exactly now, I thought it too high and wasn't game to add any more.

I don't know if I should try lowering the multiplier and raising the FSB higher or to just raise the FSB with default 10X multiplier, I only have 1333 ram so I've already had to lower the ram X one notch, I have had the ram stable at 1600Mhz with 1.9v and auto ram timings but didn't know if I was pushing it too hard, atm my FSB is doing 1720Mhz and the ram 1433mhz.

I'm cooling the CPU with a Coolermaster Hyper 212 and have the side of the case off, runs cool as.

Has anyone tried new DDR3 RAM (1.65V) sticks on this board in 8GB 1600MHz?

I have tried the newer DDR3s on my BlackOps and they never reached the values advertised. With that said, this board is [I have this one as well] very hard to find RAM for and the RAM I've bought for it never reached the actual values on it; the only RAM that ever got close to to the speed/timings was my 2x1GB CellShock 1866 and they are running at 1600Mhz 8-8-8-21.

I would hold my breath hoping newer DDR3s will work on this board, but if you do go after buying some and trying out, don't go over DDR3-2000 [I've done that twice and have had to RMA the sticks because my BlackOps wouldn't even boot].

The E8600 is a funny chip. Mine can reach 4.5Ghz on 1.33v [roughly], but if I try to push it to 4.6Ghz it requires around 1.4v; that is huge jump for a mere 100Mhz. If I was in your shoes, I would be content with the CPU speed, and would try to up the RAM speed. If you keep trying to push it higher, it will degrade faster with the more volts you run on it.

PS: I actually own a Hyper 212, and I used it a few weeks until my water loop parts arrived. I was never able to push neither of the chips I used back then [Q9400, E8400, E8500] much without the temperatures going crazy; I guess your ambient temperature is low.

    Thanks!
I won't be buying any new RAM then, probably even harder on Q9450.
A completely new PC is the better choice.

    The RAM I was thinking of is Corsair XMS3 DDR3 PC12800/1600MHz CL7 2x2GB (CMX4GX3M2A1600C7)
If someone has this RAM, Q9450 and ASUS P5Q3 config, please share info...

I own a set of the CAS8 version of that RAM. I can try to see if it runs at rated speed on that board. The chip currently on the board is a Q9450 [I believe, at least]. It will take a few days though, I gave that board/chip away, so it depends on my brother letting me try it out.

I'm more interested if the new RAM sticks with 1.65volt improve ASUS P5Q3 with 8GB (4x2GB)
With 2 sticks I can run my OCZ in 1600MHz but never all 4 sticks.
The OCZ are 1.8-1.9V and I am curious if the lower voltage helps in any way with this P45 board.

I know that 1600MHz on 4 sticks is very hard, if not impossible...
I read somewhere before that P45 boards have a different memory controller/ architecture than previous boards, more similar to socket 1156 or maybe it was socket 1366, don't really remember.

So it's interesting to find out if it can somehow work...

This is getting weird. That set has a 8GB version, which I'm actually thinking of buying for my BlackOps to max out the RAM on it. I will let you know if I pull the trigger and try all 4 sticks on this board. G.Skill Tech recommends it for older [X48, P45] boards that need DDR3 RAM.

Did you any difference from 4Gb to 16GB? in Windows or Games.
