I think your 2nd dimm has got an issue mate. I don't trust memset anymore, I have had several issues till now with DDR3 ram and 2Gb dimms... passing flying colours in memtest ( test 5 and 7 stressed ) yet giving errors, freezes in HCI memtest or OCCT ram...
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

Yep, defo issues with the second module - had to bump up the memory voltage to 1.7 and NB voltage to 1.20 so that vista can boot with it. Then started torture test again with prime95 - went away to take a nap, came back and saw the login screen to vista. Logged in, saw a message 'you got an error, please submit to ms' etc etc - description showed it was a bsod.

How can one dimm work with default voltage e.g 1.60, while the other doesn't even boot? And still doesn't work when the memory voltage is upped . Now trying it with 1.80 memory voltage and 1.35 NB voltage. Lets see - Not much hope, but I think I'm gonna rma it. Been driving me crazy for the last 3 months.

EDIT: LOL - tried settings above and prime95 just gave up on me with hardware faliure message - wtf

Someone on the corsair forums telling me I don't have a leg to stand on when it comes to warranty since memtest is running fine for both modules

What memory should I buy ?

    Hi,

    I have P5Q3 Deluxe with OCZ3P16004GK memory (2x2GB).
I am struggling to get it stable for several month already and it looks stable but then again it freezes and BSODs every several days or so.

I am pretty tired of it and want to replace the memory, here I need your advise. What 1600Mhz memory should I buy that will work without any special bios setting/tweaking ?

I have Q9540 CPU if it matters and I want to have 4Gb of RAM. It can be 2x2GB or 4x1Gb ....

    Thanks in advance.

NB and CPU skews on 45 nm quadcores

(Originally posted on the 45 GTL setting thread, might be interesting here for ex. for turbatos)

    Hello,

after having wondered about if I can manage to run my Q9550 E0 and the P45 NB at the stock GTL values after all after such a long time (Bought my CPU in October), I tried out what powellandy did, also after having read something along the lines from mikeyakame.

And, I was successful. I just felt that a narrow range of 0.66-0.69x for stability on all GTLs was not looking like the system felt overly well. Here are my results, old first:

    Mainboard: ASUS P5Q3 Deluxe Wifi@n
    FSB Clock: 450 MHz (x8.5=3825)
    CPU VCore: 1.275V
    DDR3 RAM Clock: 1350MHz (4x1 GB Corsair 1600 modules)
    NB Volt: 1.4V-1.44V
    FSB Term Volt: 1.36V
    CPU GTL Ref (0/2): 0.66x-0.69x, using 0.68x
    CPU GTL Ref (1/3): 0.66x-0.69x, using 0.68x
NB GTL Ref.: 0.66x-0.69x, using 0.68x
    LLC: Enabled
    CPU Clock Skew: AUTO
    NB clock Sew: AUTO

    New:

    Mainboard: ASUS P5Q3 Deluxe Wifi@n
    FSB Clock: 450 MHz (x8.5=3825)
    DDR3 RAM Clock: 1350MHz (4x1 GB Corsair 1600 modules)
    CPU VCore: 1.275V
    NB Volt: 1.4V-1.44V
    FSB Term Volt: 1.36V
    CPU GTL Ref (0/2): 0.63x-0.70x, using 0.63x or 0.65x
    CPU GTL Ref (1/3): 0.63x-0.70x, using 0.67x or 0.68x
NB GTL Ref.: 0.63x-0.70x, using 0.63x or 0.65x
    LLC: Enabled
CPU Clock Skew: 500 ps delay
NB clock Sew: 400 ps delay

400/300 works, too, less than that tends to instability. Once again it shows that automatic settings aren't really good...

I am currently using 0.65/0.68 to not be on the razor's edge. These settings also take into account that ASUS is trying to keep the GTL references 0/2 and 1/3 apart...on top of this, the stable way higher GTL reference range indicates that this is a lot more of a stable setting than previously. However the previous settings without skews were tested 11 hours prime stable, too.

The best way of stabilizing a 45 nm quadcore above FSB430 appears to be to try and compensate with the clock skews first and leave GTL Ref. lines at defaults (not AUTO!), and then test the upper and lower limit of stable GTL settings. Then use a value that's in the middle, to be as far away from the limits as possible.

Translated into more analogue terms, this means the smaller the stable range of GTL references is, the closer the signal overshoot and undershoot are getting to the reference line. With it, the probability of one of them crossing the reference line increases drastically, and with it certainly the chance of having data corruption on the processor bus.

If you've got any questions or need my full Ai Tweaker settings, let me know.

Turbatos, can you please post some CPUZ shots with Memset as well? I am only able to run my memory with a divider on this baord so my memory is running 1584Mhz @ 6-6-6-18-2T-60 but I am not able to run 1:1 with memory at 1800Mhz on my P5Q3 Deluxe. I have read many threads which Tony from OCZ states it is very hard to run memory on this board at 1:1 1600Mhz or higher. I have 4 sets of memory as follows:

    (2 sets ) G.Skill PC3-12800 HZ 2x1GB 1600Mhz 7-7-7-18 "D9GTS"
    Mushkin PC3-12800 2x2GB 1600Mhz 7-7-6-18 "D9GTS"
    G.Skill PC3-12800 2x2GB 1600Mhz 4GBPI-B "Samsung HCF0"

All of these kits will run at or above 1800Mhz on my P5E3 Premium and the 2x1GB G.Skills will run up to 2040Mhz on my P5E3 Premium. I cannot for the life of me get ANY of these kits to run 1:1 at or above 1600Mhz.

Here's some SS of my current P95 stable speed.

Any help, specs on your ram, screenshots with memset and CPUZ would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

ce n'est peut être pas la priorité d'asus de régler le problème de bios de cette carte mère. cette carte est un echec cuisant et il faudra faire avec.

I though tthis one mate : ICS 9LPRS918JKLF but I'm not sure and can't crosscheck as I no longer have the board
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

    Hi all !
I have been able to easily overclock my E8400 E0 CPU to 4,5GHz : the system is very very stable and works great!!

Only a little trouble with memories: I have Crucial Ballistix DDR3 memories with default clock of 1800MHz and 8-8-8-24 timings @ 1.9V. If I overclock them to 2GHz @ 8-8-8-24 (or even 9-9-9-28) @ 2V the system boots fine and pass all bench / torture tests, but after a period of normal use I have PC freeze... So I think it's a problem of voltages...

In fact, in BIOS ALL voltages, except vcore and vdimm, are set in [auto]. What other voltages do you suggest to modify? For example PLL, FSB Terminator Voltage, NB Voltage, SB Voltage,... all to be stable at 2GHz?

    E8400 at 3.6 FSB 400
    4GB Kingston DDR3 1600.
I have to install the RAM in slots 2 and 4 to get the system to boot at the RAM Specs of 1600.
    What am I doing wrong?

Yes, for my use it is stable. However in a few days I will upgrade to Nehalem Core i7, so P45 and Penryn will go into the cupboard gathering dust

Trying to get stability at 3.8 Ghz q9450.

    He folks,

If anybody has any suggestions ... please let me know.

I've got my system up and running at 3.8 ghz, i can throw about any benchmark / stresstest at it and it keeps running (though it starts throtteling after about 2 minutes in intel burnin test, but only just)

cooling is a scythe ninja copper with std fan, tried a 3000 rpm static pressure 133 cfm fan on it, still it starts throtteling at around the same time as with the standard fan.

    Vcore = 1.30V
vNB = 1.6 (was running at 1.56 but it keeps freezing after some time, normally notice it when i come home from work.)
    mem = 8-8-8-28-82 (it's OCZ 1600 1G modules ... all 4 bank occupied) running at 1266 mhz at 1,9V
    pll = 1.52V

    p5q3 bios 2105

Have not played with GTL's yet ... tried once, but every setting resulted in a non-boot scenario ...

i've run actually better then this everyday freezing at 3.8 Ghz but then with 1.28 vcore ... thought i'd bump it up a notch looking at numbers from different users ... still, it didn't help me ... comp is still freezing every day ... the night it normally survives ... it's running seti + cuda after 60 minutes of idle time, seti at 75% because it then only reaches about 80C and i actually don't care about that that much ... realtemp's numbers i don't trust that much.

Any help would be appreciated ...
