don't need 512bit bus its why 4870 never really gained much of a boost even with an extra 200mhz + on the memory overclock hasnt saturated it yet.. I think there eventually will be a 5890 possibly with 512 if not then next series after the shrink might be..

also memory will be at 5300 mhz so nice mem speeds just to make sure its not going to fail with it....

you act as-if its the same core as the 4XXX series its not its like double everything pretty much so even at 850 it's impossible to compare as its a diff chip entirely

512bit isn't possible with the diesizes were are planning on seeing from AMD/ATi, until they start stacking/staggering the MCs which is pretty far off.
We might eventually see a small bump up to 384bit in the future but that will be when they actually have a need for +200GBps of bandwidth and GDDR5/6 stops scaling effectively.

Can anyone project the die size of HD5870 if made at 55nm. Suppose if 40nm was a really bad process then 55nm is the only other choice.

Well since RV870 die size is unknown at this point, somewhere around 330mm2 is the best estimate/rumor, these numbers won't be exact especially since there are way too many variables involved to calculate accurately.

Assuming RV870 is about 2.1bil trannies and ~330mm2, it would be ~600-660mm2 on 55nm.
