I caught the x58 fever and wanted to familiarize myself with the architecture, so I sold my UD3P+Q9650+8GB G.Skill Pis and upgraded without spending a penny more.
This was my result:
But then I started getting withdrawals from moving away from s775so I decided to build a cheapo rig and satisfy my appetite for overclocking on this platform.
I had the choice of picking another Q9650, but there were many horror stories in this thread about lack-lustre 9650s with 1.300 vids, while the 9550s seem to show relatively better results. I decided to go as cheap as possible while pushing the clocks as much as my air-cooler would allow for 24/7. I still haven't finished putting parts together; I need better ram and psu, but this is what I've done so far. Oh, this chip also happens to be my best s775 chip do date.

Very nice Zucker.![]()
Ah! I made a mistakeI copied the template with the wrong VID! Mine is a terrible 1.3v
I will lower the clock to 900/900/0/50.
Even at 1:1 and higher mch/ref the board doesn't seem to go over 500 despite having temps always 65 and below.
So I should start atvcore 1.3125 and put everything on auto and just try to increase clock with 9x multi? It is very unstable at 9x with 400 and over unfortunately.
I guess I got a bad chip.

Hey Zuc nice to see you're back in town! Those are amazing results on the Q9550 and what really cough my eyes is the fact that those Q9550 don't give up after 70oC when most of the Q9650 bugs out after 63oC
Might get one of those to play with on the other rig, thanks for sharing.
Got the EP45 DQ6 installed, after some head scratching I am running some small fft's at 4500mhz. The dates are screwed up in prime because it fudged up after my last try and 4500 when it bsod'd. The temps seem to be much lower than with before on my other board. Don't know why they would be any lower, same chip.
EDIT: Had to go up a notch on vcore. The board has 2 CPU Ref's and 1 MCH Ref, the values are different and has thrown a curve in my ocing. I left CPU Ref's at default .760 ref1 and .80 ref2 and went up 2 notches on MCH ref, seems to be working so far. I tried to leave at default but failed instantly. The skew doesn't work the same for 4500mhz either as on the UD3P. I went with Napalms 1000/1000/0/0, running blend now, for 4400 it was blending fine at 800/800/0/50.

I've finally found a q9650 thread!!! Great!
I've got a water cooled q9650 on a P5Q Deluxe with 1066Mhz DDR2 - im hoping for 4.25Ghz - thats 9*470 - about!
U all recon this is possible? I hope so!!! - Stock speeds - my 9650 idles at 28c and loads after a couple of hours P95 at 38c - so ive plenty of room for a higher Vcore!!!
Any advice??
Sould be possible mate, start off with 400FSB , get to know ya CPU (what it likes regarding FSB term , PLL volts) , 450 is a no brainer on P45 (normally) and even 500FSB is doable on the P5Q Dlx but be prepared to pump over 1.35FSB term voltages... and you will need to get off the 1:1 Divider ( so good high speed rams are a must )
now I have a new baby!my 9550 E0 FPO L922B951 VID 1.1125V
today finishing testing and results is :
I belive,4Ghz too izzi for this chip, but my mobo is not good for quad 45nm.
465 FSB is good result, and it not a limit, but I dont want raising too much volt fot NB.
BTW, what temp is critical for NB? now I have 64'C at peak load, is this good or not?
Temps for chip is not more, than 79'C at LinX,Prime95 at 65-67
and my rig is:

How are you ViViD i got 87k with the quad at 4500 and the GTX285 at stock clocks mines are 729/1674/2800, didnt tried to OC more cause i have a problem with XP that wont lent me use High CPU OC + High Clocks on VGA, just could do some benches on 3DM06 but on W7 i can do whatever i want.
Cheers

Got my chip just now. I'm going to run IBT for a few tests and post back.
The first set of tests will see how far I can push her on stock volts.... 1.15v core (yay!)
Suprisingly enough, it seems as if I have no stuck sensors. I was expecting one at least.

I updated yesterday to bew F10f bios...seems that they loose some timmings it left me do this at tigh memory timmings on lower volts, the same on bios F10b (tough it scores more latencie on mem) does not run not even minutes...
x8,5 and x8 + tight mem timmings and speed has been always a no go on my system...yes on 9 multi but this seems good...7+ hours blend all nite
Cheers

Ok, first round of tests are complete.
I am running windows vista x64 until 7 is fully released. This is mainly because I want to be able to play bf2142 on this machine.
I set the voltages to stock in the bios for all values.
For all these tests volts were as follows:
PLL 1.50
CPU term 1.20
CPU ref 0.760
Vcore 1.15000
dram v 2.08
dram term Auto
dram chA Auto
dram chB Auto
MCH v 1.20
MCH dram Auto
MCH ref 0.760
ICH IO 1.50
ICH v 1.10
I ran the standard 5 runs of Intel Burn test v2.3 using "maximum" for the memory setting.
It failed by way of BSOD at 445x9 so I backed it down to a maximum of 439x9 for a speed of 3951mhz.
Here are my runs leading to that maximum.
333x9 for 3000mhz
400x9 for 3600mhz
412x9 for 3700mhz
423x9 for 3800mhz
434x9 for 3900mhz
And finally 439x9 for 3950mhz
I'll go one size up on the pics next time.
Next round of tests will see how low of volts it'll do for 4000mhz-4400mhz.
