here's the top guys. As usual lighting still sucks. Took 26 hours to render on e1200 at 2.8ghz

maxwell+solidworks once more.To Laine, I'd say that the render looks nice, but you have to make a circle a little bit more circular. (fan hole)

There are too few polygones in the render, I don't know what setting to change.

    It's perfectly round before rendering.

In Autocad type FACETRES(It is a system variable) and set it to 10. Then render it again.

Let me know if it helps.

I will if it doesn't take forever to render.

Do anyone know any external rendering program I can use with AutoCad?
To make studios etc. like the guide on the previous page?

    Cheers.

The normal value for FacetRes is 0,5 so you can try setting it to even 4/5 and it should look much smoother.

Most 3d programs can import a file type called SAT. All you do is go File->export
    and select ACIS(SAT)

That will make a file that you should be able to import into other Packages.

Seeing all the amazing stuff coming out of this thread made me want to start submitting more stuff.

This is just a replica of my Swiftech Rad (excluding the LOGO)

did you model the barb yourself? If you did, can you please post it? They are the bitspower barbs right? Really nice render. What software did you use?

Thanks. Yes those barbs are my work but all dimensions are taken from photos so they are not accurate. I'll post iges later.
As for rendering, I'm using V-ray 1.5 in 3ds max.
If someone is interested, here's a nice tutorial about setting up a studio in 3dsmax/Vray http://cg-india.com/Tutorials/V-Ray/...ial_SL_01.html
And here's a good and free Vray materials database http://www.vray-materials.de/

    Update: 1/2 highflow barb

thanks man! Can I use them in my model? I'll give credit to you. Is it based on the fatboys?

    Sure, no problem.
They are based on BP 1/2 highflow fittings but as I said, I dont even know the proper length so dimensions are not 100% accurate. Would be cool if someone measured them.

By the way, there is a free sketchup-to-dxf converter that works with basic Google Sketchup version, so you can use models from Sketchup Components Collection in your favourite CAD software.

I just noticed the bitspower barb is not anywhere near the origin point. When I import, it is off and wrecks my model. The barb does look nice though.

hey guys. This is my waterblock assembled. Worked a bit on lighting and camera settings. Still no emitters. Emitters will come later once I get my box working with lights. 13.5 hours on an e1200 at 2.8ghz, sl20.

Wow, quite a few posts since I last checked this thread.

jonathankru: Excellent! - nice job with the acrylic material.

Boogerlad: Very nice job with the materials. Have you tried the HDRI file I posted for your lighting? I'm still looking for some time to handle your requests regarding the tutorial - sorry can't really give an ETA on it, busy week/month.

emir: Awesome design job with the CPU and GPU blocks - really liking the sharp angles on the Perf-G

Laine: Slick looking barbs. Internal 3DS Max render engine?

Mick64: Wonderful render as usual - nice choice of colors (My university's colors as well (Oregon State Beavers)). New HDRI lighting environment I'm guessing? Also any chances of seeing new, non-case renders from you?

I've been busy with finishing up school, part-time work and doing some behind-the-scenes work with Charles

    Please excuse the double post...

    Xtreme 3D Modelers and Renderers

I've created a new public group for those who wish to discuss topics related to 3D modeling and rendering. I hope in the end, that this thread will be dedicated to being more of a gallery with help and such being held in the user group .
