Would there be any limitations with the RAM controller on the CPU itself?
Also I read that going over 1.65v could damage the CPU???

4.2 OC
Ratio: 20
BLCK: 200
SPD: 8
And Intel Turbo tech boost on to give me the 21 for added stability that seems to work well.

You only need to be sure you keep the dram voltage within .5V of the QPI/Vtt is all. It is not a 1.65V limit

Set command rate to 2T for 12GB.
Also increase IOH to 1,2-1,25V and VTT to ~1,4 that should do it.

you will hear both sides to the argument, my 1866 dominator gt's require 1.65v and VTT of 1.6v according to Corsair to run at their rated speeds...

More than 1,45V VTT on air WILL kill your IMC sooner or later. I killed the 3rd ram channel on a 940 after 2 weeks at 1,52V - on phase change (cold is supposed to help).

I have a quad rad but don't like the idea of this vtt volting been an issue.
So 1.4 is perfectly safe?

Should I even go 1.4 on vtr to try to get
the 12gb working ?

At the moment on 6gb @4.2ghz...
I have vcore 1.3 and I did have vtt as 1.355 (?) but I've been lowering it and then Linx testing etc
it's been stable.

Can you go as low on vtt as you need to as long as you maintaint the .5 between vdim and vtt??

I was wondering if anyone here knows what is happening with these EX58A series boards?

As someone posted on OcUK forum that they contacted Gigabyte via e-mail and another guy actually called them up to see when we were likely to be releasing these boards, and they were told that they wouldn't be hitting the shelves anytime soon, if at all.

I remember one of you guys on this thread saying they should be here by next month, but if what these people were told is true then we probably wont be seeing them for a good while yet, or maybe never.

I was actually looking forward to these mobos becoming available, but I guess that isn't going to happen now.

You dont need 1.4V VTT for 12gb to run, but it all depends on the CPU, the speed at which your rams opperate and on the bios version you are.

Im on 12gb with 1200mhz @ cl7 T2 running with VDIMM 1.65, VTT 1.355, Vcore 1.28x (Drops to 1,245) and works without problems so far.

Though im still on F4j cause all the other versions need either more VTT or more Vcore to be stable.

Yup, with on exception that tras was 20 instead of 24

But you could also try 1600mhz with cl9 or whatever works best for you.

Maybe i can get my lazy ass to work and try to figure out a new setting for the latest bios.

I do believe over 1.35-1.4 is fine, some XMP actually have programmed settings of 1.6 or more.

I made a post at TT about this, which links to OCZ's qualification and testing of some of their modules at 1.6V QPI/Vtt at stock speeds.

As long as you keep QPI/Vtt within the .5 range you will be fine. Alot of the 1.65V ram discussions were made before anybody knew anything. I think if 1.6V was a dangerous QPI/Vtt voltage OCZ would not test, validate, and program their modules at this setting, nor would the publish it in public as they do.

Of course voltages are always up to the end user to decide what to use, but just keep in mind certain things (High Speed/Tight Timings) will not be possible without stepping outside of the ranges that have installed fear into everyone. Please do go have a look at the bove link, then follow the link in that thread to OCZ's page and have a look at some of their modules XMP Programmed settings.

Which ever way I do this it looks like speed some how is sacrificed.
So until there is someone who can confirm that I can go 12gb somehow without needing to loose much speed.
I will keep things as they are... luckily I can sell on the ram to someone who wants it.

Before I decided to try out 12gb i'd been working on stability on 6gb and I've been using the following.
Can anyone please highlight any problem areas for me?

CPU Clock drive: 900mV (is this the best setting?)

well i can tell you now i can get my dominators to throw memtest errors when i back off the VTT at 1900mhz. Linx is great but it wont show errors all the time, memtest finds errors before i see any sign of instability, it likes to burst my bubble aswell

ive just left it on 1.65ddr and 1.6vtt for now...its also a pain getting 1T stable at 2000mhz

So did you try the new BIOS's and raising B2B settings? This is supposed to help stabilize at 2000+. I have not used any of the new BIOS's yet as I am in the middle of a review, but I do know that is supposed to help at higher speeds like that.

I just OCed my i7 920 D0.
On the motherboard what are the 5 blue light, next to the CPU temp LEDs, for?

The DRAM and QPT/VTT voltages should not exceed 0.5v, right?
Also, what is your 920 D0 vcore @ 4.0Ghz? (turbo disabled)
QPT/VTT Voltage @ x36?
I know we don't have same vcore and QPT/VTT, but I just want to get an idea how high the voltages for i7 920 D0 stepping.

Since I am off of work today, I OC just the CPU, and downclock the RAM and Uncore.

The blue leds are the overclocking leds.... the higher you oc the more leds are shining... its all in the manual page 26 and onwards.

havnt had a chance to play with some of the smaller settings just finding the max OC of the chip at the moment then i can come back to getting more out of the memory

Makes me want to go buy Asus's equivalent revision that was also coming out.
