I love my new board x58 ud5. This is the configuration for 24/7 4000Mhz with 1.232 with HT On




I read since page 115 to 142 searching for the best configuration, learning how oc this board and finally i get the 4000Mhz with HT On

Yeah Jonny, this chip is an absolute dog mate..

But at least they are offering to replace it again for me, that's the main thing..

I just don't like the way they went about this tbh.. trying to pawn me off with their bunk processor..

Quite a sneaky practice imo, and I don't really like sneaky people tbh.. had I not checked the underside of this chip before installing it, I would have never known that it had already been used by them, and I wouldn't have caused so much fuss..

Though now I will get a cherry chip from them because of all of this, so it isn't to bad I suppose...

And as for these temps mate, it has to be this processor that runs hot, because with both of my TRUE's I get identical temps on every core, and with my Zalman they are even higher, so it isn't anything to do with the bases of my TRUE's that is causing the problem, because if that was the case, then I should have seen similar temps with the Zalman like I used to get with my previous chip, but the temps went into the low 90's with the Zalman on this processor...

Maybe the IHS is dodgy, so the base of my heatsinks are unable to make proper contact??

Anyway, I can't wait to get this replacement chip.. I just hope it can do more than 4GHz with some tweaking..

I have specifically asked him to get me a chip that can do 20 x 200 instead of 191 x 21, because the way I see it, is if I get a chip that can do 4GHz without Turbo Boost, then it should manage to do at least 4.2GHz when Turbo is enabled, or at least that's what I am hoping for!!!

I have also decided to go for a custom water cooling setup for my rig, as I have been looking at a lot of threads with water cooled i7's, and the temps are excellent compared to air (obviously!!! ), and I have never tried water cooling, so it will give me something else to play around with and spend cash on!!!

I'm not saying that your next chip won't be what you are expecting, but I wouldn't get too excited untill you get it and it does what it is meant to. I'm hoping your excitement isn't wasted and that your next chip is a winner.

Water cooling is, imo, the best thing you can do to your own pc these days. Building a custom loop is worth it for the fun of designing and building it, not to mention the better temps which are just a bonus in my eyes. If you enjoy building and tinkering with your pc, as you no doubt do if you are an overclocker, then you will love water cooling.

i got a 6gb ocz blade 2000mhz kit but had to rma them, still waiting to get them back, just using a cheap 1600mhz patriot kit for now

About my current chip, I have been chatting with the tech guy @ OcUK about this processor and how I'm not at all happy about being given this as a replacement for a fairly decent chip that I had returned, and he has agreed to change this one over again for a chip that he will guarantee will run @ 4GHz with low voltages!!

He has told me to give him a few days so he can cherry pick a decent sample for me, so I am extremely delighted about this..

He told me that this would be the last time that he can swap this chip over, but if I am getting a processor that is guaranteed to do 4GHz on low voltages, then I will have no need to ask him to swap it over again!!

Good to hear they are starting to listen, mate ... its a sad state of affairs when you have to go this far and they lied to you in the first place, but OcUK are famous for dealing in muddy waters I'm afraid.

Maybe mention you are talking about them on this thread (They realise this is a well respected site) they hate exposure when they seem negative, just witness the deleted threads on their own boards when customers complain about things going wrong.

Also who ever it was from OcUK who told you, "this is the last time they will swap the chip", is wrong or in need of training, you can send back anything you buy from them within 7 days if you ordered online, by the UK distance selling act, this is Law and even OcUK are not above it.

It does not matter if they send you 1000 dud CPU's, one after the other or 1000 CPU's you are not happy with one after the other, the law is on your side.

The actual legislation is pretty long winded ... but here it is, this document is still UK Law despite the date the law was introduced.

That would be my first thought but now I'm so tempting for the Crucial Ballistix due to its fancy LED. Anyone happen to own them?

Most etailers are the same mate, not just OcUK and personally I have never had a problem with them.

I've been buying PC parts from UK retailers for over 15 years now, long before OcUK started up ... They are definitely not all the same.

I only dealt with them as a last resort this time so I could get all the parts from one shop at one time, as luck would have it, OcuK were the people to have it all in stock at same time

In fairness to them, they mostly got the order right this time ... I paid for a tube of Arctic Silver that was never sent ... I had a spare old tube thank goodness, they were also supposed to send me details of how they clocked the UD5 to 4GHz (as promised on the phone) but I'm still waiting.

I'm just glad I got a decent CPU from them and that all my parts ... touch wood ... are working to spec and above.

I'm at 4GHz stable now, no thanks to them.

Hopefully I'll never have to order from them ever again ... they really are the worst.

You guys are lucky that retailers are willing to swap your chip, if it is crapy one for OC. Retailers in my country wouldnt even hear it... they dont give a , unless it is technically broken. I couldnt even pick a revision model, not to even mention batch number.

This goes back to a faulty setup where a 4ghz+ chip was replaced with a dog (high volts and temps)....so its a case of wanting to replace a faulty 4ghz+ chip with another

True. In all honesty though, the retailers don't need to guarantee something that the manufacturer doesn't even do themselves. It's not like Intel state, "these i7 920's will reach a minimum clock speed of 4GHz or your money back".

If the supplier wants to make that sort of claim, then that's fine as long as the replace any cpu's that don't do what they claim. I'm honestly surprised this even happens.

Just picked up my EX58-UD5 and been playing around with it a little. I was wondering if anyone could help me out with a small problem. I have a I7 920 Batch #3845B026 which can boot into windows at 4Gz with 1.18-1.20V. However, I am having trouble figuring out the voltages on this bios (F8). I set the CPU Vcore to 1.25 in the BIOS but in CPU-z I see 1.18 - 1.2 but hardly ever over. Is there a bios setting to make the chip take the voltage set in the Bios?

Have you enabled 'Load Line Calibration' in the BIOS??
Basically all you are experiencing is vdroop which is pretty normal, enabling LLC helps to surpress it a little, but as long as your system is stable, I woulnt worry too much

Just enable LLC , UD5 hasa bit of a Vdrop . If I set my voltage to 1.285v I see 1.264v in CPU-z

Ya they will work fine on that board, and will do 2000mhz at looser timings. They also have a 777-20 1600Mhz XMP Profile programmed in them, and will do that as well.

They look superb as well, if you would like a video of them running I could post one or link you to someone else's video of them

Sorry I can't link to my review on them yet, I am slow with these types of things it seems. I received them direct from Crucial for a review, several months ago. Life has just got in the way so I have not finished up the review yet.

@M31, it would appear that OcUK are quite good at "forgetting" to send people their AS5 when putting out orders.. I have heard quite a lot of people on their forums complaining about not receiving their AS5 with the 4GHz bundles..

I hope that the chip they send me this time will be a goodun, if it isn't then I am just going to send it straight back again tbh, as I want a chip that is as good as or better than the one I returned the first time...

I always thought that this was the policy with RMA's, if they send you a replacement part, that it should either be as good as, or better than the item that was returned??

So, lets just hope that they get it right this time, because I have been screwed about far to much already with this system, so I am not going to put up with anymore crap from now on!!!

I have asked the guy that is dealing with me to find me a chip that will do 20 x 200 on as little voltage as possible, as I don't want one that has to use Turbo Boost to hit 4GHz...

He recons it will take him a couple of days to source a good chip, so I am hoping that it goes out at the start of next week for me..

Thanks for the speedy response, I really appreciate it. I actually read a couple reviews but I still wanna hear from user experience and from what you said it looks like a great kit to me. Now I know I'll get this kit, I might consider the Asus P6T board as well and I hope there shouldn't be any problems. I'm gonna get the 6GB set and the question is where should I order from? Either Antares Pro or Price Guide Network?

I might consider the Asus P6T board as well and I hope there shouldn't be any problems.

"Asus" and "no problems" shouldn't be in the same sentence, really... I suggest sticking with Gigabyte unless you want to trade one issues for the other... Check Asus P6T discussion thread before making a final decision.

I google them on BBB and still can't find any helpful ratings but since they're the only one who carry it at this particular moment, guess I'll have to give it a shot. It's not that expensive compare to other kit considering you gotto pay about $120 to get a good one, I'm gonna get it soon.

zalbard: I've been an Asus fan and it rarely gives me problem just like I have my Maximus Formula solid rocking. Reason why I consider Gigabyte is because I wanna try something new and not trying to stick to the same one over and over. I'm just wondering if the Crucial memory works fine on the Asus board, other than that I know it's always a trade off when you pick one thing over another.
