Nope looks like its from MSI, anyway u have to flash using a USB stick in the bios or using afudos..in dos...I have found using the usb stick in bios to be really easy.

Second question is it work moving to the MSI AM3 board w 1333 or 1600 DDR3 over the DKA790GX Platinum I am now running w DDR2 1066 I am guessing that on eith platform I will hit a wall with a max overclock of the 550 at 3.9 just wondering how much faster it would be than the DDR2 platform running at 3.7 and would it be worth the little cost to move to. I would expect increased bandwidth but in day day usage would it be noticeable and would it be noticeable gaming w a pair of 3870's in Xfire at 1900x1200
IIRC 1.8 is a stable bios direct from MSI. You can find the 1.9 beta in the first post in the thread

    guys your thoughts

is it worth it at an extra cost after selling to go from my DDR2 based

    dka79gx platinum
x4 920 at 3.6 (probably can do more have not bothered)
    4gb Gskill PC8500

    to a

    790FX-GD70
    AM3 X2 550 (hopes to unlock)
    4gb 1600 DDR3

will the x2 550 perform as well at 3.6 vs the true quad overclocked to the same? second I guess there is the potential of no success unlocking depending on stepping I get for the 550 but being left with a dual core that will hopefully do 3.9

would it be smarter to leave what I have alone for a while and if anything drop a 955 into it later??

video card wise I will leave my crossfire 3870's in a bit longer before flogging them....

Personally, I wouldn't do it if what you're looking for is increased performance. The increase you might gain (if the 550 unlocks) isn't worth any money you might have to add to make up the difference. If you need more speed try overclocking the cpu a little more. With what you have, I'd wait until the 8-series chipset boards roll out and then decide whether the move to AM3 is worth it.

Pardon me for not being up to date but which MSI AMD mobo can do both 550BE core unlocking and Prime95 Blend stable at the present moment? Seems all I see is the GD70.

I sold my GD70 and am back on the DKA790GX Platinum.

How does 1.8 unlock? I saw it unlocked but didn't run any stability tests. Is this bios that Toppc has much better?

I have no idea Dopamin3, I have just bought a DKA790GX Platinum and am waiting for a stable bios before I make my purchasing decision of either buying the Phenom II X3 720 BE or the II X2 550 BE.
Will decide on the proccy when I will see the successful unlocking of the 550 BE. till now I have unconfirmed reports that the DKA790GX Platinum 1.8 bios does unlock the cores.
Lets hope Toppc gives us some good news.

1.8 no good for unlocking. Did a quick test on 1.9b2, no coldboot issue with changing NB speed (problem similar on early beta of GD70). I will be testing for stability today, but it seems like it should be good

What stepping you have on the 550BE?
My stepping is CACYC AC 0920GPMW. In Windows XP it work as X4, but in Windows 7 64-bit the computer reboot when itīs come to Windows logo. :-(

Between the 2 boards how do you find the 790GX compares? I have found it to be a good overclocker, I have my 920 at 3.6 but I have a X2 550 on way and already some great Mushkin DDR3 1600 so I have been giving thought to getting that board and selling off the 920 and 790GX Platinum but possibly opting for a 955 over the X2 550, gotta make mind up this eve as the cpu ships tommorrow from a contact...........
