Perhaps Napalm had or has a Tardis and a few months from now the Gen2 drives with their super fast uber TRIM Firmware out run the Gen1 drives by a huge margin...making them look like a POS in comparison ;-)

tardis? lol call me whatever you wish.. but can you even match my tardis?
my ignorance!
the reason i dont got 4x x25e is cause of many claims: "x25: degrading performance"Rhys: Just to nit-pick, I don't think Napalm constitutes as everyone.
its what kept/keeps me away from x25e.. instead of putting on me.. why dont you guys put it on the micron chips.. oh no! here come the micron/crucial fans..
if gen2 chips dont fair better than gen1 @ "degrading performance" i wont get gen2 x25e.. maybe gen3 ?
thus till then ill take my chances on smtg else

It's ok.............. Griff you have Won! hands down, won't be a doubt in anyone's ones mind about that.
Now you should be able to offer me $230 for my G1 with the reduction of 'Couch' expenses. You are really making progress in dealing with your core issues.

Has anyone got their hands on one yet? I'm still waiting![]()
Places in the UK should be getting them in stock within the next 2 weeks...although the official word from most e-tailers is "no ETA yet"...

Sold mine G1 now. This is what Scan.co.uk told me.
Thank you for your custom. We're writing to give you an update on your order and the out of stock item(s) listed below:
80GB INTEL 2.5i MLC Gen.2 SSD
As detailed in our previous email, the estimated lead date given to us from our suppliers was 24/07/2009.
Unfortunately we've been informed of a further delay which means we're not able to fulfil your order as soon as we'd hoped. Please be assured we're doing everything we can and stock should be with us soon if you're able to wait with us. As soon as stock has arrived we'll despatch your complete order immediately and confirm this by email and SMS.
It's annoying when that happens.
TBH I'd be surprised if you get your hands on your Gen2 drive next week, there are serious stockage problems even in the states, which means we will have to wait even longer![]()

Might possibly ask to amend my order and get a 2nd in raid 0.
I figure this should offer the same or better small file performance as non-raid G1's but with the added benefit of much higher sequential's!
Am I right in thinking this as I could sure use 160-180 writes and the 500+ reads?

Could this be the cause of the delay?
"***Public Service Announcement***
Intel has informed me of a bug in the X25-M G2 shipping firmware (02G2). This bug is specific to setting a hard drive password in your BIOS. If you have set a BIOS HDD password, then subsequently change or disable that password, the SSD may become inoperable. Intel is correcting the issue in firmware and will be posting a fix shortly. In summary:
DO NOT set a BIOS HDD password on an X25-M G2.
If you already have, DO NOT CHANGE OR DISABLE the BIOS HDD password.
It will be safe to do either of the above once the X25-M G2 is flashed to a newer firmware to be released by Intel shortly. Firmware, when available, can be reached by this not-yet-live link.

Interesting findings Rhys
I doubt that is the cause of the delay as it is the usual stock and demand. IMHO Intel should have announced the release a week or two later to give places time to stock the units.
Yep RAID0 does up performance, here are my humble Gen 1 80GB drives RAID0

They are good drives (Gen1), I guess the Gen2 refine and polish the drives even more?
BTW I am running them on the ICH9R on my P5E3 (X38)

I have disabled this feature. Not meaning to be a best but do you know of any other settings that you suggest I should tinker with? (Win7 x64 RC)

1. Win7 tweak number one, is to disable "Open File Security Warning" on most files to no files.
2. Turn off minimizing and maximizing animations.
3. Turn off superfetch/prefetch and empty Prefetch folder without touching Readyboot folder...
4. Turn off useless services (always disable the task in taskmanager before disabling the service, otherwise taskmanager will attemt to start the tasks and slow down boot when it fails) and apps/driver software startup with OS.
5. Prepare for pagfile removal by taking the apropriate steps (important) and then remove it completely.
6. Turn off Hibernation including removal of the file..
7. Disable TMM, search for "UseIViewHelper" in register, and set it to "0"
8. Turn off disk flushing..
9. Always use Intel Storage Manager and drivers v8.7..
10. Update Option ROM ICH9R to v8.8.0.1009, this I can do for you since you have AMI bios...
These tweaks are candy on my Win7 RTM x64, and I do them every time I install OS, and work sweet on Vista/Server 2008/Win7... Tell me if you need an explanation how to do any or all of the steps, a lazy way to awoid typing to much in this heat we have here where I live![]()

Thank you very much Ourasi
I guess that the TRIM registry tweak will be reversed if/when Intel update the firmware for the Gen1 drives to support this feature?
My motherboard's BIOS has Option ROM 8.7.0.1007, is there a newer one out for the ICH9R?
If so please could you link to release notes?
I have Matrix Manager 8.9.0.1023 is that bad?
Anyway thanks for the tweaks it's amazing what you can squeeze out of an OS!
BTW Intel's forums are down... is this because of people wanting to TRIM?

Depending on what your doing turning off page file isn't a good idea.
I have 8gb's of ram and when I using Photoshop it ran out of ram and the system crashed and was unrecoverable so I lost a load of work. Usually the system comes up with a warning asking you to close non-essential applications but that's hardly ideal if you are working on a load of files. If you just gaming or not using apps that eats any resources you system has it should be ok though.
I compromised by having the minimum page file size at 16mb when your PC starts so windows won't write to a page unless your system is completely out of ram, and in that situation you will be glad you didn't disable it.
