Some quick overclocking results with my new UD5, I am loving this board

Been able to get it up to 4.3 with 1.39 volts, although I have not taken the time to really stress test the clocks yet. So many BIOS options, especially for the RAM.

Well, I pulled out my old boot drive and tried installing my OS onto another drive that I have, I also tried XP this time, and the same problems are still present...

I really dont know what the cause of these issues are, I am just away to make the payment on my new UD5 today, so it should hopefully be here by tommorow or the next day...

If I get this new mobo and the same problems are still present, I really don't know where else I can go from here???

Incorrect QPI/Vtt-Ram voltage relationship (Distance between the two) can cause memory channels to appear missing, I can cause it on purpose at high speeds or wrong voltage settings.

So maybe you just need to find the correct relationship for your CPU for those settings. All CPU's are different some need this to be set closer together, others farther apart, and some it does not matter much.

Maybe Eva200 or Dinos could chime in more about that for you, but I can say it you are using too much QPI/Vtt or not enough it can appear that channels are missing/faulty. They can show up as N/A in the BIOS and or just be missing once you post or get into windows.

Yep it is Intel AHCI 1.20E ROM and Intel RAID ROM 8.0.0.1039 I believe, of course newer RAID ROM's are available, but the AHCI is what you would notice most anyway.

    Hi LSD,

The RAM channel is fine now, but when I was having problems with it, when I entered the BIOS, I could still alter the timings for the stick that wasn't being picked up, but when I checked the POST screen or Performance tab in Task Manager, they both only reported 4GB out of the 6GB I had installed...

But that isn't happening anymore, I can swap out my RAM, and the mobo will pick up both sets perfectly...

It is just the instability I am having issues with now... I am on 32bit XP atm, for testing purposes, on another HDD also, and I am still getting problems when trying to run Prime blend or IBT, the system will either freeze, or reset itself after a short while stress testing, even at stock...

I made the payment for my new UD5 this morning, hopefully the guy gets the mobo shipped off to me today so that it arrives tommorow... as I really want to test out my hardware on another board...

I have read that the distance between QPI and VDIMM should be 0.5v, and I follow this all the time, I have tried closer together, and further apart, but NOTHING that I try seems to make a blind bit of difference guys!!!!

If I get this new mobo tommorow, and the problems are still present, then god knows what I can do from there, I think I will just sell of all this i7 stuff and go back to using AMD stuff again... I never had a problem in all the years I used AMD processors... and the first time I decide to do a build using Intel hardware this is what happens to me!!!!

Ya, even though you can change the settings per the missing channel if you see N/A in the BIOS per any channel then that channel is not functioning.

The comment you made about distance of QPI/Vtt and Vdimm, is just the max you need to stay within. That is not the amount I am referring to at all, all CPU's differ like I said, some want them to be close and other further apart.

Here is a thread with a little better explanation on that, DFI Board but that does not matter. Eva2000 has some great tips here that would apply to most any setup. See note # 15-16 tips # 5+6

Hmmm, well, after reading all that stuff from Eva, I am more confused than ever!!!

I can not make any sense out of what he is trying to say in that thread lsd... it is all just mumbo jumbo to me...

As I said man, I have tried having the QPI/Vtt voltage set at various distances between my VDIMM voltages, and each setting I tried doesn't make a blind bit of difference!!!

Well i am running 2x Riad 0 so maybe i could also notice changes in the Raid rom. But 8.0 is already a newer version then i have in the F7 Final.

The F8d Bios seems pretty good. 4.2Ghz Stable i think with only 1.23v.

F8d is a ok Bios, but needs far more voltage for the same settings to work then 4Fj.

I think ill stick to F4j till gulftown.

    Hi again guys,

I was wondering whether any of you UD5/Extreme owners use the Be Quiet Dark Power Pro PSU to power your rig???

I talked to a guy on another forum who has a pretty similar rig to me, and he is also experiencing a lot of the same problems as me to...

Also, I spoke to soon earlier when I said the RAM channel was fine... It has now stopped working again!!!

I have tried playing around with the QPI/Vtt and DRAM voltages, but nothing seems to cure this problem!!!

This mobo is bricked... when my new one arrives then that should confirm it!!!

Its the first time I have heard of problems with that PSU and i7's, but others have mentioned issues with other PSU's eg Thermaltake 1000w.

Guess testing of the new UD5 will give us some clue

    DIMM slot is working again!!!

I pulled the CMOS battery out, closed the clear Cmos jumper, and left it sitting for 10 minutes, fitted the battery back, removed the jumper, and turned on my rig, and all my RAM was detected...

However, I then loaded optimzed defaults, and enabled XMP profile for my Dominator RAM, and when I saved and exited the BIOS I looked at the POST screen and only 2 sticks were being picked up!!

I removed the Dominators, and put my XMS3 set in, and it was working again...

This rig is causing me so much stress, I am sick of it, I can't use it for its intended purpose, and that is driving me mad...

All I can hope for is that the new mobo will sort all my problems, and then I can return my current one for a replacement...

Do the full CMOS clearance again and just put the XMS's in and try that. I wonder if the Dominators are goosed and have been causing issues!?

A few years back, I discovered that clearing CMOS fully whenever I changed ANY hardware is the best way to go (for me anyway).....

Disappearing ram is not always the fault of the mobo, in fact its kind of cool to see that intels IMC is so advance that it just turns off faulty ram and let the others online.

I did suspect that the Dominators were faulty, but the system is still playing up with the XMS3 set installed... the DIMM channel has dropped out again...

    PITA!!!

Flashed the F8E from F6 Final. Cant even boot 4.0 anymore with 1140 mem.

Before 4.2 and 1600 Mem was not a issue. Flashing to F7 Final now. Else its back to F6 for me.

    does any one try this

The Sound Blaster X-Fi MB solution provides premium audio quality, effects and features for PC systems equipped with only basic onboard audio.

For gamers, the EAX® ADVANCED HD 4.0, with its state-of-the-art Multi-Environment rendering and reverb modelling, delivers a much more realistic and immersive 3D gaming experience than your motherboard audio ever will.

In addition, X-Fi Crystalizer adds dynamics and punch to every gunshot, explosion and music track while X-Fi CMSS-3D provides an incredibly realistic surround sound experience from just a pair of stereo headphones.

Due to changes in Windows Vista's DirectSound3D implementation, certain legacy DirectSound3D games will have its audio compromised, resulting in only stereo output without any effects.

Creative ALchemy is a powerful tool that restores the EAX effects and full surround sound when running these DirectSound3D games in Windows Vista so that you can enjoy true 3D interactive gaming again.

Native OpenAL support is a cross-platform 3D Audio API used by many games and music applications developers to deliver superb 3D audio simulation. Since the Sound Blaster MB includes native OpenAL support, you can be assured of an incredible 3D audio experience on many PC game titles.

For music lovers, the X-Fi Crystalizer can restore the details and vibrance, (lost during the compression process) back to your mp3/wma. Also, X-Fi CMSS-3D gives a whole new, 3D-surround sound dimension to your existing stereo music. Other audio effects such as EAX® reverbs, Smart Volume Management and a 10-band graphic equalizer allows you to enhance your music even more. All essential audio effects and controls are conveniently placed in a central and intuitive console.

In addition, a suite of cool software is included to cater to all your music needs, whether it is managing gigabytes of music, singing karaoke or just simple audio editing.
