Just rereading some of this thread and sorry to see some unhappy people.
Why does anytime a company tries to do what I'll call a 'good" thing some people get unhappy and try to find fault with it?
I can sit back and enjoy what people will do with these and I suggest that maybe some here think on that.
You don't have to have "everything" that exists to be able to enjoy the experience.
Edit:
I want to add a little more to this.
Think on the cost/benefit to the company.
They send out a 100 chips in these nice fancy boxes.
The retail cost of the cpu is what? say it's worth $300.00 based on what I see in their pricing and a little added for it being a special chip.
So they have $30,000.00 for the chips plus the cost of the labor, boxes, and shipping involved.
Call it $40,000.00 when all is said and done for the sake of picking a number.
Now, what do they get out of it?
Some exposure yes, but is it worth the $40K investment?
That's a management call.
What I see is that they incure a $40G cost to put smiles on the faces of 100 guys.
How can anyone find fault with this?
I don't care who they go to.
I just see this as a good thing for the people who get them and then also I get to watch what they do with them.
None of us lose, everyone wins and I'd just like to say Thanks to AMD for doing this.
