excellent thread!!!
so whats the conclusion? a>b? how about mfc location, are all i7 chips made in costa rica?
if not how do chips from diferennt fabs compare?
fyi, i added all numbers from your excel sheet to a graph and played around with it... for those interested:
average reported overclock is ~4ghz with ~1.4v
average voltage scaling based on reported results is 150mhz per .1v vcore
and something that didnt surprise me but maybe its news to some, lower temperatures dont mean much... you might be able to get the same overclock with less vcore if the temps are low, thats it... lower temps dont notably translate to higher clocks. notably higher clocks at the same vcore are only possible with notably lower temps in the -100C range.
improved aircooling or watercooling only allows us to run higher vcores and hence higher clocks without running into critical cpu temperatures of 80C+ and it allows us to enable HT. for normal gaming and desktop usage overclocking i7 seems to make very little sense... it makes much more sense to reduce vcore to 1v and then push for the highest clocks which will be more than fast enough and consume a lot less power and run much cooler.

I have the chip below and I'm having serious problems with BLCK being only stable at 180 at CPU 1.20V with Prime95 25.9 (x64) Blend for 11-hours+ with temperatures of 80C peak, 40C idle on RealTemp 3.0 and ambient 29C outside.
Processor: Intel Core i7 920 2.66 GHz
Revision: D0 (SLBEJ)
FPO/Batch#: 3901A238
Date of purchase: 2009-06-29
Place of Purchase: Newegg.com
When I have more time I'm going to try to see if I can get 190 to work. From my short testing today anything at BLCK 200 MHz even with CPU V 1.45 and QPI 1.45 ends in immediate freeze within 15-seconds while doing Prime95 SmallFFT test. I think that it might be my processor, memory, or something else in the equation.
(Update: I did testing and my maximum voltage is 1.250 V which hits temperature peak of 94C for my air cooling setup. At this voltage BCLK 180 is stable but 190 is not and leads to a freeze within minutes. I have settled on 3.60 GHz at BCLK 180 x Multi 20. Might test BCLK 185 for 3.70 GHz but I don't have much hope without bumping voltage up.)
I have my own overclocking thread below with the details of the problems I'm having. It might just be my inexperience with overclocking since my last attempt on AMD Opteron 175 2.2 GHz only ended with 2.5 GHz 3D game stable, and 2.75 GHz 2D prime stable.
