Yeah, that's what I've read about the 4770 and the 4870 too when it comes to manually changing the clock. But changing the BIOS to the same lower clocks makes it unstable in at least some situations.

Have you tried to permanently lower the GDDR5 idle clock speed, or do you have any link to someone doing it? I still haven't seen it.

ninong: I don't think so. The high power consumption is because of the GDDR5 that neither underclocks not undervolts, and partly because of the new 40 nm process.
Thanks, but I am quite happy with my Sapphire Toxic. But thanks, anyways.

    ASUS Extreme AH4770 Formula Review

Today we have a new and exciting budget product from ASUS, called the Extreme AH4770 Formula, which as the name suggests is a Radeon HD 4770 graphics card. However not just any Radeon HD 4770, as a lot of work has gone into upgrading this particular version with better cooling and more durable components…

Decent review. The card looks crap though, what were they thinking?

As for OC it as many HD 4770 sucks when it comes to memory, only 900MHz.

It took me four purchases before I got my card that delivers good memoryperformance, 1200MHz. It's almost as they deliberately are putting half-defective chips on these cards.

What voltage does the memory on the 4770 run at stock?
From the factory they are rated at 1.5v for 4Gbps.

Honestly, I'm not sure. But considering that I've seen a few 4770's from all brands doing 1100-1200MHz I assume they get feeded with proper voltage. The disturbing part is that the results varies so much, from 900 -> 1200MHz...and that within same brand/model. They are specified to run at 1000MHz, so anything lower than that I consider defective.
